According to reports, Apple plans to include smaller bezels on the iPhone 16 series, in contrast to the iPhone 15. This marks the second instance of this rumor gaining traction. Interestingly, the technology believed to be responsible for this advancement shares the same name that was previously mentioned.
Apple’s ‘Border Reduction Structure’ Method to Slim Down iPhone 16 Bezels
According to a report from Korean outlet The Elec, the upcoming iPhone 16 will feature slimmer bezels thanks to the use of ‘Border Reduction Structure’ technology. To achieve this, Apple will need to tightly place the circuit and bend the wiring downwards, which presents numerous technical challenges. Currently, no company has been able to produce OLED displays for the iPhone at the level required by Apple.
The goal of all three companies is to improve quality and decrease expenses. As LG’s production capacity for OLED iPhones is only half of Samsung’s, it is in the best interest of the Korean manufacturer to investigate different cost-effective strategies, as their economies of scale are restricted.
This year, it is anticipated that Samsung will supply OLED panels for all models in the iPhone 16 series, while LG is said to be responsible for providing displays for the ‘Pro’ versions. It is currently uncertain whether the ‘Border Reduction Structure’ technology will be incorporated into all four models or exclusively reserved for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Hopefully, Apple will focus on improving its more affordable models, as there are millions of consumers who are not willing to spend an exorbitant amount on the top-of-the-line handsets. It is also important for there to be some unique features on the upcoming iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.
