iOS 18.2 Restores Volume Slider on iPhone Lock Screen
The innovative features of Apple Intelligence are finally arriving on iPhones. Despite Apple having introduced Apple Intelligence during WWDC 2024, the iOS 18.2 update marks the moment these functionalities are rolling out to compatible devices. Users can look forward to experiencing elements like Genmoji, the Image Playground, and integration of ChatGPT within Siri and Writing Tools across various iOS applications.
In a notable return, Apple is also reinstating a feature that was eliminated after the launch of iOS 16 in 2022. Previously, the volume slider was removed from the iPhone lock screen and was only visible while using AirPlay.
With the installation of the iOS 18.2 beta, users can now restore this feature, enabling volume control directly from the lock screen. To activate this setting, one must go to Settings > Accessibility > Audio and Visual, then toggle on “Always Show Volume Control.”
Once enabled, the volume slider will consistently appear on the lock screen whenever headphones, Bluetooth devices, or even the iPhone’s internal speaker are in use.
Additionally, as part of the iOS 18.2 updates, Apple is introducing a Visual Intelligence function akin to Google Lens. This feature enhances user experience by providing insights when the camera is directed at any subject. It is capable of reading text from images and utilizing location data from those images as well.
For further exploration, this function can be paired with Google Search or ChatGPT to obtain more comprehensive information. To use this feature, users need to hold the new Camera Control button on the lock screen and capture an image to discover more details about it.
