iOS 18.1 Update Allows Users to Change Their Primary Email Address
The recent iOS 18.1 update has rolled out an exciting new feature that many users will find beneficial. For the first time, Apple allows individuals to designate a primary email address for their accounts. This enhancement means you can now modify the main email address linked to your Apple ID.
Your primary email will be displayed to others during document sharing and collaboration. Until now, users lacked the option to alter or eliminate their established iCloud email address. While there was a capability to create an alias for sending emails, you couldn’t fully revise the primary email.
As reported by MacRumors, modifying your Apple account email is straightforward through the iPhone’s Settings app. Previously, changing your primary email required you to remove the linked email from the account.
To change or set a new primary email address, open the Settings app, tap on your name, and select “Sign In & Security.”You’ll find the pertinent email address there, along with a “Change Email Address”button. By clicking this button, you will be able to modify your iCloud email address.
Keep in mind that Apple has clarified that once you switch your email, future notifications will no longer be sent to your old @iCloud.com or @me.com addresses. However, you can still use these addresses as aliases to send and receive emails. Additionally, your previous email addresses will not work with FaceTime or iMessage.
This feature is particularly useful for longstanding Apple account users or anyone who may be dissatisfied with the email address initially chosen when they created their account.
