Invincible Season 4 Update from Cast: Ensuring Consistent Yearly Releases After Season 3

Invincible Season 4 Update from Cast: Ensuring Consistent Yearly Releases After Season 3

Invincible is gearing up for its fourth season even before the third season has fully premiered. This series, adapted from the comics by Robert Kirkman, follows the journey of Mark Grayson, a seventeen-year-old discovering his superpowers while navigating life as the son of the planet’s most formidable superhero. Since its launch on Prime Video in 2021, the show has garnered a notable voice cast, featuring Steven Yeun as Mark, J. K.Simmons as Nolan (Omni-Man), Sandra Oh as Debbie, and Gillian Jacobs as Atom Eve. Season 3 debuted on February 6, 2024, and impressively started with a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

In a recent discussion with ScreenRant regarding season 3, J. K.Simmons revealed that he has completed a small portion of his recordings for season 4. However, fellow cast member Jason Mantzoukas is still awaiting updates, and Steven Yeun remains cautious about divulging too much information. Simmons noted that he plans to continue his recording sessions over the next few months, while Mantzoukas shared that he typically receives minimal advance notice for his recording dates.

Steven Yeun: I don’t even know if there’s anything for us to say, other than we hope we can deliver to you a great show every year.

J. K.Simmons: Yeah, I already have recorded a tiny bit of season 4, and I think it’s going to be a couple of months before I get back into the studio again. And I don’t know in advance where we’re going; I’ll know when they say we’re going to do episodes 2-4 sometime in whatever it is, March, April, May. Sometime in the not too distant future, and then, obviously, a year later, they’ll be done with animating it, and it’ll come out.[Chuckles]

Jason Mantzoukas: That I don’t know. I know it’s already in process; I know all of that’s going on, but I can’t speak to where they are in their process. You’d be shocked to find out they do not keep me in the loop on stuff until they’re like, “Hey, Tuesday, get in your closet. We need to record you.” It’s so funny because, at a certain point, I had to be like, “Hey, can I get the full script? I want to read what’s up. I want to read everybody else’s stuff.” Because I’m only seeing my couple of pages here and there, so when I started getting the full scripts, boy, incredible.

The production of Invincible involves extensive voice recording sessions that are often spaced months apart. J.K. Simmons’ recent confirmation of his involvement alongside the cautious remarks from Jason Mantzoukas and Steven Yeun indicate that production for season 4 is already underway, albeit in its preliminary phases. The animation for the series is a meticulous process, requiring significant time for post-production due to the blend of traditional and digital techniques utilized by the animators.

With Prime Video fully backing the series, fans can anticipate the potential for a release of season 4 by early 2026, assuming that production maintains its current trajectory. The distinctive split release strategy observed with season 2 in 2023 and 2024 seems to have paved the way for a more consistent release schedule. With season 3 following closely in succession to season 2, the series appears to be aiming for more regular releases unless unforeseen challenges arise in coordinating between voice actors and animation teams.
