Reviving the Green Lantern Corps: A New Chapter Begins
The Green Lantern Corps has weathered its share of turbulent times, but they’re making a triumphant return with a dynamic new ongoing series. While Hal Jordan fortifies his position in the pages of Green Lantern, the broader team is mobilizing to safeguard the universe in Green Lantern Corps.
Recently, the Corps faced an unsettling takeover by the malevolent Lord Premier Thaaros, leader of the United Planets. However, the conclusion of the “Civil Corps”event marked Thaaros’ downfall, paving the way for the organization to recover and mend the damage inflicted upon the Emotional Spectrum. In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, writers Jeremy Adams and Morgan Hampton dive into the vibrant adventures that await these iconic ring-wielders.

Interview Insights with Jeremy Adams and Morgan Hampton
Screen Rant: Jeremy, what makes this an ideal moment to launch a new ongoing series of the Green Lantern Corps? Morgan, how did you get on board with this project?
Jeremy Adams: The timing feels right because the Green Lantern narrative has included a growing cast. As we brought in various characters and explored their backgrounds, we now have a perfect opportunity to reintroduce the Corps to the audience. Readers are likely somewhat familiar with these characters thanks to their earlier appearances, setting the stage for this new launch. Most importantly, I’m eager for us to expand the Green Lantern universe.
Morgan Hampton: My journey began by reaching out to DC editors for potential opportunities after my work on Cyborg concluded. I presented a Green Lantern concept to Paul Kaminski, who expressed interest and connected me with Jeremy. The collaboration happened quite rapidly, transforming my initial pitch into this exciting project. Comic book work can be unpredictable; one moment you’re seeking gigs, and the next, you’re racing against deadlines. But it has been an exhilarating experience.
Finding Balance Among the Lanterns
With the increasing number of human Green Lanterns, how do you both maintain balance and cater to every fan’s favorite characters?
Jeremy Adams: Our strategy involves crafting several issue arcs that center on particular Lanterns while intertwining subplots featuring others. No character will be forgotten—instead, we’ll shift focus periodically to give everyone their moment in the spotlight. This approach allows us to develop diverse narratives, reminiscent of the ensemble dynamic akin to Star Trek.
Morgan Hampton: Exactly. We aspire to satisfy fans of all characters, except perhaps the few who cherish obscure Lanterns from decades past that we won’t have space for. Our goal is to ensure every Lantern gets their fair share of development and recognition.
Jeremy Adams: We aim to address common queries about characters who haven’t received considerable backstory yet. I find it exciting to explore characters that some readers might currently dislike, turning that sentiment into opportunities for growth. By showcasing their strengths, we can potentially shift opinions.
Collaboration with Artists
Working with Fernando Pasarin and Oclair Albert, how has the visual collaboration enhanced your storytelling?
Morgan Hampton: Their contributions are vital. The richness of the worlds we create leaps off the pages thanks to their artistry. They breathe life into our narrative, elevating it beyond what we could achieve through writing alone.
Jeremy Adams: I’ve previously collaborated with Fernando and Oclair, and their synergy is remarkable. Fernando’s artistic vision goes above and beyond expectations. His enthusiasm for the Green Lantern Corps is infectious, and it’s a joy to work alongside such passionate talents. As a writer, I always emphasize the importance of visuals; without compelling art, readers might lose interest. I’m committed to ensuring our collaboration yields an engaging and fun experience.
Character Developments and Story Arcs
Moving into the first issue, can you discuss John Stewart’s development after his arc in Green Lantern: War Journal? How does this evolve his role in Green Lantern Corps?
Morgan Hampton: John underwent significant changes in War Journal, notably involving a construct of his late sister. We’re delving into whether those decisions were justified, exploring his internal struggles. While he appears composed on the surface, his emotional turmoil will eventually affect his interactions with others.
Jeremy Adams: John’s recent journeys have added layers to his character. He’s dealt with personal strife, including the complexities of creating sentient constructs. As he reenters the Corps, questions about his decisions will arise, fostering conflict and deeper narratives. We’re committed to this emotional exploration as a pivotal element of the story.
Regarding the other Lanterns, how do you plan to explore their new roles and developments?
Jeremy Adams: We look forward to exploring various characters, many of whom may be less familiar to newer fans. With each character getting a moment in the spotlight, we hope to establish connections that lead readers to want to discover more about them through their past arcs. While Jessica has always been integral, seeing her adopt a leadership role adds exciting dynamics.
The Fractured Spectrum and New Characters
What can you tell us about the intriguing Sorrow Lantern and the larger implications of the Fractal Lantern saga?
Jeremy Adams: The Sorrow Lantern, conceived at a time of emotional upheaval, is tied to the Starbreaker, an emotional vampire feeding off Nathan Broome’s pain. This storyline will have significant ramifications across both series as we navigate through the chaos caused by his actions. The exploration of deep emotional narratives will unveil new layers to familiar characters, ensuring that each development resonates with readers.
New Members and the Guardians’ Role
What can fans expect from the Corps’ newest members, and how do changes among the Guardians of the Universe fit into this narrative?
Jeremy Adams: We’re keeping the specifics under wraps for now, but expect surprises regarding who will join the ranks of the Green Lanterns. St. Walker prompts lively discussions among fans, and he embodies the shifting dynamics occurring within the Corps. The Guardians are also evolving, now playing an advisory role influenced by the energy reformed by John’s actions.
Future Vision for Green Lantern Corps
As you look ahead, what do you envision for Green Lantern Corps and its place within the DC universe?
Morgan Hampton: Our ambition is to cultivate a vast, interconnected narrative that goes beyond individual character arcs. We want Green Lantern Corps to encapsulate the vastness of space and the unique adventures and conflicts that arise from it, ultimately delivering an exhilarating experience.
Jeremy Adams: We’re committed to delivering surprises, bringing a sense of joy, tension, and excitement that fans may not anticipate. Our goal is to entice former readers back to the lore of the Green Lanterns while crafting compelling tales that resonate with current fans.
Green Lantern Corps #1 is set to hit the shelves on February 12th, 2025.
