Internet Reacts to Pastor’s ‘No Diddy’ Joke on Abstinence During Sermon

A video featuring a pastor’s “No Diddy”joke during a sermon has gone viral since its release on October 17, 2024. This clip showcases a church service at Oakwood University, a historically black Seventh-day Adventist institution located in Huntsville, Alabama, where the pastor discusses the importance of abstaining from premarital sex.

“I understand that you are at a crossroads. Even while you’re here, you might feel inclined to say ‘No Diddy’ to an Oakwood student. I’m just keeping it real. You have to make a personal choice regarding your life and decisions,”the pastor remarked.

He further stated:

“When I first met my wife, I made a commitment and didn’t kiss her even once… I didn’t kiss her until I brought her to the altar, and without those pre-kisses, we’ve now been happily married for 40 years.”

Recently, the term “No Diddy”has emerged as a modern slang term akin to “no homo”or “pause.”These expressions are often used to dismiss or deny any implications of queer identity or intention. According to Urban Dictionary, “no homo”is defined as “something you say after stating something that could be interpreted as ‘gay’.”

As the pastor’s sermon became popular online, social media users quickly began to share their reactions.

“He interpreted that completely wrong!!!!!,”remarked an Instagram user.

Many found humor in the reference and questioned the pastor’s choice of words.

However, not all viewers were amused, with some labeling the reference as “odd”and suggesting the pastor was attempting to appear trendy.

On the other hand, some users expressed support for the pastor’s remarks.

Lately, the slang “No Diddy”has emerged as a trending expression. This shift coincides with the numerous lawsuits recently filed against Sean “Diddy”Combs, with the phrase taking the place of the previously popular term “no homo,”which originated in the 1990s to deny any association with homosexuality.

The expression “No Diddy”reportedly references the multiple allegations against Combs, surfacing since last November, that accuse him of rape and violence, including accusations of him abusing men.

As reported by XXL Magazine in March 2024, rapper Quilly is credited with popularizing the slang in his interview with DJ Akademiks during the March 19 episode of the podcast Off The Record, where he repeatedly used the term.

Shortly thereafter, producer BNXY utilized the phrase in a post on X, which quickly gained traction.

Since then, its popularity has surged, with rapper Gucci Mane even releasing a track titled TakeDat (No Diddy) a month later.

It’s important to note that amidst the allegations against Combs, the phrase has faced criticism for trivializing the serious nature of these accusations. Furthermore, it has been condemned for its implication that homosexuality is something that should be rejected.

The controversy around Combs intensified last year when his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, filed a lawsuit alleging sexual abuse and violence in November. Although her lawsuit was resolved swiftly, numerous others came forward with similar allegations.

Among them was producer Rodney “Lil Rod”Jones, who claimed that Diddy sexually harassed, assaulted, and groomed him over the course of a year, filing a lawsuit in February 2024.

These lawsuits have triggered a federal investigation into sex trafficking involving the rapper, leading to raids on his residences in Los Angeles and Miami. Diddy’s arrest in September came with charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for the purpose of prostitution.

Combs has consistently denied all allegations against him and is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, with a trial date set for next May.
