Jelly Roll made a notable appearance on the Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon on Monday, September 30, performing the song Lonely Road alongside Machine Gun Kelly. It is important to mention that this track has derived its melody from the beloved classic Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver.
Shortly after the performance, a woman named Karen took to X to share a tweet that caught Jelly’s eye. The tweet read:
“How long will it take for @JellyRoll615 and @machinegunkelly to get sued for their song Lonely Road sounding exactly like Country Road, Take Me Home by John Denver?”
The 39-year-old Jelly Roll wasted no time in responding to her comment, tweeting:
“We cleared it with the John Denver estate – they love our interpolation of the song. I appreciate your legal advice though, Karen.”
This brief exchange prompted a flurry of reactions on social media. One user remarked:
“It’s always a Karen”
Another user commented on Jelly’s response:
“Kind response Jelly, I guess I’m not as nice as you 😂🤣😂.”
“They thought y’all did this without permission 😂😂😂😂,”added another user.
“Hahahaha! Karen’s pissed,”observed a netizen.
The term “Karen”has become a widespread internet label used to describe a woman perceived as entitled, demanding, or quick to complain, especially in public settings.
Many users on X labeled her as a “Karen,”while others noted her instinct to consider a lawsuit immediately.
“She’s a Karen indeed….”wrote one user on X.
“No shot her name is actually Karen,”stated another X user.
“Her first thought was a lawsuit. Yea, this isn’t a fun and joyful individual,”commented another.
John Denver’s Take Me Home, Country Roads was a massive hit in 1971. Lonely Road, by Machine Gun Kelly and Jelly Roll, was released in July 2024, charting on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The original songwriters also contributed to Lonely Road.
During the People’s Choice Country Awards, Machine Gun Kelly expressed his appreciation to John Denver’s family for their support of the new track.
Travis Barker Joined MGK and Jelly Roll on the Tonight Show
Machine Gun Kelly and Jelly Roll performed their hit song Lonely Road on the Tonight Show earlier this week. Alongside them was Travis Barker, who joined in during the performance.
Shortly after, Kelly called Barker up to the stage before transitioning into his rap verse. The performance concluded with Jelly Roll expressing gratitude to Jimmy Fallon and the audience.
It has been reported that Jelly Roll and MGK reconciled their differences and put an end to their feud when they collaborated on this project. The former discussed this with Fallon, stating:
“I just love him to death. We’ve known each other a long time and we started on rocky roads and made amends.”
Jelly’s anticipated album, Beautifully Broken, is set to be released on October 11, 2024.
