Internet Reacts to DJ Envy’s Controversial Decision to Dress His Young Daughter as Lil’ Kim for Halloween
DJ Envy Faces Backlash Over Halloween Controversy Involving His Daughter
On October 31, 2024, DJ Envy stirred up a significant controversy on social media after posting a now-deleted video on his official Instagram. The footage showcased his young daughter, Brooklyn, dressed as the iconic rapper Lil’ Kim for Halloween, which prompted widespread criticism across various platforms.
Outfit Inspired by Lil’ Kim
In the controversial video, Brooklyn donned a strikingly risqué red bodysuit resembling the outfit worn by Lil’ Kim in her famous music video, “Crush On You,”which was released in 1996. The ensemble was completed with wigs and fur accessories. During the video, DJ Envy was seen on FaceTime with Lil’ Kim, who reacted excitedly:
“Oh my gosh! Are you guys taking a picture?”
DJ Envy responded, indicating that they were recording a video, stating:
“No, we’re doing a video. She about to do the whole video.”
Moreover, Envy sought Kim’s approval for the outfit, which she readily granted. In the clip, Brooklyn was also seen lip-syncing to the song while censoring herself during explicit parts.
Legacy of “Crush On You”
“Crush On You” was included in Lil’ Kim’s debut album, Hard Core, which enjoyed significant commercial success, making its mark on the US Billboard 200.
Public Outcry and Criticism
The Neighborhood Talk captured and shared a glimpse of the contentious video on Instagram, igniting a wave of public reactions. Many users expressed their disapproval, with comments indicating that the situation was “wildly inappropriate.”One viewer remarked:
“As a father, I wouldn’t allow my child to do this.”
Others echoed similar sentiments, calling the entire display one of the “most embarrassing cringing things”they had ever witnessed.
Halloween Posts: A Mixed Bag
Despite the backlash over the video featuring Brooklyn, DJ Envy seemed undeterred. He continued to engage his followers with additional Halloween-themed posts on X (formerly known as Twitter). One of these tributes featured his other daughter, London, performing a dance to Aaliyah’s classic, “One In A Million,” while wearing a striking black outfit.
“Happy Halloween…Pt2 RIP Aaliyah.”
This subsequent post was also met with criticism, with many pointing out that it was questionable for a child to perform in such a manner. As reactions flowed on various social platforms, DJ Envy has yet to publicly address the criticisms concerning either video.
