Recently, Swae Lee, the renowned American rapper and singer, witnessed an extraordinary moment as Tesla’s Optimus Robot showcased its talent by performing his hit song “Sunflower.”This remarkable event took place on October 10 during Tesla’s We, Robot presentation, where tech innovator Elon Musk was a key figure and Swae Lee, alongside 2 Chainz, was present.
At the event, Swae Lee took the stage to request a performance of “Sunflower”by one of the robots. As the mechanical performer concluded the song, it was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience, following an insightful description of the robot by Musk.
As clips of this captivating performance circulated widely online, many social media users flocked to X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts about Optimus. A significant number of users expressed skepticism, questioning the authenticity of the robot’s performance. One user remarked:
“There’s no way that isn’t someone over a mic. If not, that’s awesome if it can recognize him.”
Other users echoed similar sentiments, with some expressing concern about the potential for a robot uprising in the next decade:
“We going to act like someone isn’t somewhere talking through a microphone?” commented one user.
“Nahh why does it actually feel so human wtf,” wrote another user.
“The first time one of these things goes off the rails and squashes a toddler’s head like a melon is gonna be a crazy day for posting on here,” joked a user.
“I’m a little worried what we gon have in 10 years,” another netizen wrote.
Conversely, several users were quick to draw comparisons between the robot and science fiction films, likening the spectacle to iconic cinematic experiences such as “I, Robot.”
“America turning into this movie!” commented one user.
“This looks like one of the robots from Call of Duty,” noted another user.
“I can’t help but think of I, Robot with Will Smith. That robot is Sonny,” wrote yet another X user.
Swae Lee Collaborates with Tesla’s Optimus Robot on “Sunflower”
On October 10, during the We, Robot event held at Warner Bros. Studio in California, Elon Musk provided a first look at the Tesla Optimus Robot to attendees.
During his presentation, Musk claimed that this new 5’8″ robot could become “your own personal R2D2 [or] C-3PO.”He further asserted that Optimus could perform virtually any task imaginable. Over a dozen robots participated in the event, with one even serving drinks to attendees while interacting with guests.
Swae Lee and 2 Chainz had the opportunity to closely examine the Optimus robot, with one of them even performing a rendition of “Sunflower”upon Swae’s request, alongside the artist.
Throughout the introduction segment for the robot, Musk highlighted its potential to transform everyday life by handling various tasks such as childcare, lawn care, dog walking, and beverage service. During the event, a video showcased an Optimus model watering plants and retrieving items from the front door.
Musk further articulated the robot’s capabilities, stating:
“It’ll be able to do anything you want. So it can be a teacher or babysit your kids. It can walk your dog, mow your lawn, get the groceries, just be your friend, serve drinks, whatever you can think of, it will do… I believe this will be the most significant product of its kind.”
Moreover, Musk noted that the robot would be accessible to the public at a price point lower than that of a typical car. He mentioned that the Optimus robot would also perform dedicated jobs, such as engaging with children, moving boxes in warehouses, and performing household chores.
Musk estimated that once mass production starts, the cost of the robots would range between $20,000 and $30,000.
Since the event, however, Musk has not addressed the incident concerning the robot’s performance of “Sunflower.”
