Internet Reacts: Lara Trump Uses Taylor Swift’s Song for Vote Trump Video, Calls for Cease and Desist from TS Legal Team

On Wednesday, Lara Trump released a campaign video on social media featuring Taylor Swift’s hit song, “22.”This development came roughly a month after Swift publicly endorsed Kamala Harris via an Instagram post, which led Donald Trump to express his frustration on Truth Social, stating, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”

The video was posted on Lara’s personal feed as well as the official Team Trump Instagram account. It showcased Lara Trump alongside a group of women supportive of the MAGA movement, all donned in pink attire. They started dancing to Swift’s 2013 song before transitioning to Forgiato Blow’s “Trump Trump Baby” towards the end.

The featured women included notable figures such as anchor Sage Steele, commentators Diamond and Silk, model Elizabeth Pipko, Lynne Patton, Ellie Cohanim, and political analyst Erin Elmore.

As the video made rounds on social media, it sparked a wave of reactions on X (formerly Twitter) from users sharing their opinions.

One user commented:

“Oh no. I hope the TS legal team sends a cease and desist! The Trump camp is clearly violating something here. The Swifties will definitely retaliate, I bet.”

Many netizens criticized the situation, suggesting that those in the video showed a lack of understanding about music rights, tariffs, and expressed hope for a response from the pop star.

“Not one of them will be able to tell you how tariffs work,”joked one commentator.

“If you can’t secure Taylor’s vote but still want her so badly that you use her music without permission. All you people do is steal!”another user asserted.

“I hope Tay Tay strikes back….”commented yet another user.

Additionally, some criticized Lara Trump for incorporating Taylor Swift’s music into their campaign material. One user tweeted:

“Taylor Swift has enough resources to have lawyers who could win a case against angels for singing Christmas carols.”

“Did they get permission from Taylor Swift for her song…”another user pointed out.

“A cease and desist is definitely on the way,”predicted one commentator.

Previously, Donald Trump sparked outrage among Taylor Swift’s fanbase with AI-generated endorsements

In an unexpected announcement, Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris for the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

This came after the presidential debate between Trump and Harris, following reports that Trump had shared AI-generated imagery suggesting Swift’s support for his campaign.

In her post from September 11, where she endorsed Harris, Swift addressed the AI-generated image:

“Recently I learned that an AI version of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump was posted on his site. It truly raised my concerns about AI and the potential for misinformation.”

Reactions to the campaign ad video shared by Lara Trump not only criticized her use of Swift’s song but also labeled the video as “cringe.”

This incident is not the first instance of music used in a Trump campaign facing backlash; according to Billboard, the Trump team previously retracted a post that featured Beyoncé’s song “Freedom”after she issued a cease and desist order, a track central to Harris’s campaign.

As of now, Taylor Swift or her representatives have not provided any comments regarding the use of her song in this latest campaign video.
