“Internet Reacts as Drake Seemingly Denounces Diddy on Instagram Account” — Trying to Distance Himself Now
Drake appears to be distancing himself from fellow rapper Sean “Diddy”Combs following Diddy’s arrest on September 16, 2023, on serious charges, including “racketeering, s*x trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution.”Diddy is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center after having bail denied twice.
On September 23, the Canadian artist reportedly took to his Instagram burner account, named Plottwist, to share two memes from the 2015 film, The Big Short, starring Ryan Gosling. One notable scene features Gosling’s character, Jared Vennett, stating:
“I never hung out with these idiots after work, ever. I had fashion friends.”
Fans speculated whether the memes were a subtle jab at Diddy, especially after rumors circulated that multiple rappers had participated in Diddy’s “freak offs.”This has led many to wonder if Drake, often referred to as the 6 God, was attempting to dissociate himself from Diddy amid previous friendly relations. One user tweeted:
There is also speculation that Drake may be shifting attention back to Diddy, especially since allegations of Drake facing p*dophile accusations have emerged in light of his ongoing rap battle with Kendrick Lamar.
“Bro didn’t even need Diddy,”one commenter noted.
“Drake will keep taking Ls into 2026 because after Diddy he’s Next,”stated another.
“Lmao Surviving Drake & Diddy hung out all the time,”someone else chimed in.
“Basically saying: I didn’t join their s*x offender ring I started my own,”claiming another user.
Many pointed out that the two rappers have been spotted together frequently.
“Isn’t there video of them on Instagram live in 2020, and them singing together?”one user asked.
“Liar Liar,”responded another.
“Them n****s was on live together and possibly hung out overseas,”added someone else.
“This is a lie. I’m not saying he attended the freak off but we know he has hung out with Diddy and friends lol,”commented another netizen.
Diddy and Drake Allegedly Involved in 2014 Altercation
In December 2014, Diddy and Drake reportedly had a physical altercation at DJ Khaled’s birthday party in Miami. DJ Sam Sneak, who was allegedly in attendance, stated that Drake ended up hospitalized with a dislocated shoulder. This confrontation was later referenced in Kendrick Lamar’s diss track, Euphoria.
However, Diddy denied the allegations of assault when appearing on The Breakfast Club in August 2015.
“I did not put hands on Drake and I do not want any problems with Drake. Drake is…right now. That’s all I have to say. He’s putting in his work,”Diddy stated.
The beef between the two artists flared again when Diddy accused Drake of stealing the beat to his track “0 to 100.”Video footage of Diddy making this accusation spread quickly on social media after the alleged fight.
Drake responded to Diddy’s claims on Instagram, saying, “People are either talking s**t about you or stealing the s**t you’re talking.”Diddy also elaborated on the topic during his 2015 The Breakfast Club interview.
“Yeah, ‘0-100’ was initially a record that was my record and somehow it became a misunderstanding because he was working with the same producers. Honestly, Drake is my favorite rapper as far as songwriting and albums… It wasn’t anything that was that big of a deal at the end of the day,”he explained.
In 2016, the Canadian rapper released 4PM in Calabasas, which sparked speculation among fans about whether it contained subliminal shots aimed at Diddy, particularly after Drake used Diddy’s catchphrase, “Take that, take that.”
Despite past tensions, it seemed the two rappers resolved their differences when Diddy accepted the 2016 VMA for Best Hip-Hop Video for Hotline Bling on Drake’s behalf.
In other news, Diddy’s next hearing is scheduled for October 9, 2024. The rapper has pleaded not guilty to all charges but was denied bail on two occasions.
