Intel has recently enhanced its Arc integrated graphics processing units (iGPUs) by allowing users to allocate up to 93% of their system memory to these GPUs, significantly expanding support for larger AI large language models (LLMs).
Improved Memory Allocation for AI LLMs with Intel Arc iGPUs
The latest HotFix driver for Intel Arc Pro Graphics, version 302.0.101.8517 – Q1.26 R2, now enables users to dedicate up to 93% of their system memory to the GPU, making it a prime choice for running extensive AI workloads efficiently.
Previously, Intel allowed a maximum allocation of 87% of system memory to the GPU. For instance, in a 32 GB RAM system, this meant users could assign around 28 GB to the GPU. However, with the new driver, users can now allocate up to 30 GB of VRAM in the same configuration, providing a substantial boost for demanding applications.

The new driver is compatible with several models in the Intel Arc Pro lineup, including the Arc Pro B390 and Arc Pro B370, as well as other GPUs from the Battlemage and Alchemist series. While no additional features have been disclosed, Intel is actively pursuing broader Independent Software Vendor (ISV) certifications for these GPUs, which could further enhance their capabilities.
This recent memory allocation enhancement surpasses AMD’s Ryzen AI chips, which can allocate a maximum of 87% of system memory. For reference, AI MAX+ platforms are capable of attaching up to 112 GB of memory to the GPU from a 128 GB system, illustrating the competitive landscape of graphics solutions today.
Key Features of the Latest Workstation Driver
- Intel Arc Pro GPUs integrated into select Intel Core Ultra Processors (series 1, 2, and 3) will support flexible increases in graphics memory allocation on Microsoft Windows 10 and 11 systems. For example, a system with 64 GB of RAM can dynamically allocate up to 59.5 GB (64 x 0.93) to the built-in Intel Arc Pro GPU.
