Intel XeSS2 Launch: Introducing Frame Generation for 3.9x Performance Boost & Low Latency Mode for Enhanced Gaming Experience, First Game Titles Revealed

Intel has officially launched its innovative XeSS2 technology, which incorporates frame generation support and Low Latency modes, enhancing the gaming experience across a broad range of titles.

Intel’s XeSS2 Technology: Expanding Game Support and Enhancing Performance

This announcement accompanies Intel’s introduction of the Battlemage Arc B580 and B570 GPUs. The XeSS2 represents a significant upgrade from its predecessor, enhancing the existing XeSS standard by adding two groundbreaking features: frame generation and Low Latency mode.

The XeSS technology has come a long way, with the latest SDK version being 1.3.1. This update expands compatibility with additional APIs, including DirectX 11 and Vulkan, thereby supporting a greater variety of modern and classic games. Intel’s XeSS has demonstrated visual quality comparable to NVIDIA’s DLSS, leveraging both DP4a and Intel’s proprietary XMX hardware for enhanced performance.

The Battlemage GPUs feature upgraded XMX engines, resulting in quicker performance and superior visual clarity for applications utilizing XeSS Super Resolution.

Understanding the Key Features: Frame Generation and Low Latency

The most notable advancement in XeSS2 is the introduction of Frame Generation. Intel has adopted an “interpolation”method for this feature, similar to technologies used by NVIDIA and AMD. This approach allows artificial intelligence to assist in generating the next frame, optimizing the gaming experience.

With XeSS2’s frame generation capabilities, GPUs like the Intel Arc B580 can achieve an impressive performance boost of up to 3.9 times in Ultra Performance mode at 1440p in gaming settings. Even with the Quality preset, players can expect to see a remarkable 2.8x enhancement in frame rates compared to native settings. This innovation is set to vastly improve gaming performance across numerous titles.

Introducing XeLL: A Game-Changer for Latency Reduction

Another significant feature of XeSS2 is XeLL, or Xe Low Latency mode. This technology aims to decrease latency significantly, particularly with frame generation in action. It stands toe-to-toe with NVIDIA’s Reflex and AMD’s Anti-Lag 2 technologies. Furthermore, Intel is implementing a driver-level low-latency mode that can be activated in games, akin to Radeon Boost, leading to an impressive 45% boost in overall system and gaming responsiveness at the same 1440p Ultra settings.
