Intel has made significant strides in its upscaling technology, announcing that the files for their XeSS2 Frame Generation and Low Latency features are now publicly available. This move signals the company’s readiness to take the next big step in graphical enhancements.
Unveiling XeSS2: Intel’s Next-Gen Upscaling Solution
As Intel prepares to launch their latest Battlemage “Xe2″discrete GPUs, they are coupling this with the introduction of their “XeSS2″technology. This new offering aims to provide a competitive alternative to AMD’s FSR 2 and NVIDIA’s DLSS 3, positioning Intel firmly in the high-performance graphics market.
The XeSS2 technology promises both frame generation and low-latency options, enhancing the gaming experience significantly. Although Intel had not shared further updates since the initial announcement, recent discoveries by Nexus Mods have unveiled DLL files related to XeSS-FG (Frame Generation) and XeSS-LL (Low Latency) ahead of the official rollout, indicating active development from Intel.
These DLL files have been shared by Nexus Mods as “up-to-date”plugins, suggesting collaboration with Intel on supporting XeSS2 in various game titles. Despite this progress, Intel has not yet provided any official releases for XeSS2, with their last update being the SDK 1.3.1, launched five months ago. For now, XeSS2 is expected to be compatible with all Intel Arc GPUs, and if the performance improvements are anything like those of the original XeSS, gamers have much to look forward to.
What can gamers anticipate from Intel’s XeSS2 technology? It boasts an impressive performance boost of up to 3.9x in Ultra Performance mode, particularly for 1440p ultra gaming scenarios using GPUs like Intel’s Arc B580. The implementation of Xe-LL and Xe-FG will likely create a marked improvement in gameplay, making it a robust option alongside existing mainstream alternatives. Intel has already indicated support for ten titles that will utilize XeSS2, hinting at an expanded range of compatibility in the near future.
While no specific release date is confirmed, indications point to XeSS2 nearing completion. Absent any unforeseen delays, we might see the technology rolled out by Q1 2025, if not sooner by the end of this quarter.
