Since its launch last year, the high-performance Granite Rapids processor has experienced a dramatic price reduction, now priced at just over $6, 000.
Newegg Features Xeon 6 6980P “Octacosahecta-core”Processor at $6, 190—Originally Priced at $12, 460 with 128-Core/256-Thread Setup
Initially priced at $17, 800 at launch, the Xeon 6 6980P, boasting an impressive 128-core architecture, was already more expensive than its Emerald Rapids predecessor. However, earlier this year, its manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) saw a significant cut, falling to $12, 460. Recently, Newegg has listed this processor at an astounding 50% discount, now going for just $6, 190.

While it remains unclear how long this pricing will hold, it appears Intel may have strategically reduced prices to effectively compete with AMD’s EPYC lineup. A review of the pricing landscape across different regions suggests that the $6, 000+ price point could remain stable for a while. In North America, Newegg is the first to present the 128-core powerhouse at this low price. Currently in stock, the Xeon 6980P offers a boost clock of up to 3.9 GHz, 504 MB of L3 cache, and a thermal design power (TDP) rating of 500W.
Built on Intel’s 5nm process technology, the Xeon 6980P utilizes the Intel Socket 7529 and is reported to deliver a staggering 87% enhanced server performance compared to AMD’s EPYC 9755. Moreover, it excels in artificial intelligence tasks, providing up to 5.5 times faster inference capabilities than the EPYC 9005 series. Despite its potential, the reduction in price may indicate a waning demand, as AMD has been successfully increasing its market penetration, evidenced by a significant share jump from 23% to 32.2% between Q2 2024 and Q2 2025.

AMD’s recent assertions about their superior performance across product segments resonate in the market trends, as sales figures illustrate their growing success. The Xeon 6 6980P’s enticing pricing isn’t exclusive to North America; in Germany, prices have plummeted to around €6, 000, down from over €16, 000 in May. A significant price drop was also noted in June, and since then, pricing has stabilized around €6, 000.
