Intel Sues Ex-Employee for Theft of “Top-Secret” Data Following Over a Decade of Employment

Intel is facing a significant data breach incident involving a former employee who has allegedly misappropriated highly sensitive information. This troubling situation has arisen despite the individual being a long-time member of the organization, contributing over ten years to the company.

Allegations Against Intel’s Former Employee: Theft of 18, 000 Files

A recent report from OregonLive suggests that the recent layoffs at Intel, often referred to as “Team Blue, ”provoked an unhappy reaction from one employee. Jinfeng Luo, who had been with Intel since 2014, became a suspect after receiving a layoff notice effective July 31st. During what turned out to be his final days at the company, he purportedly downloaded approximately 18, 000 files from Intel’s internal databases, with a portion being classified as “top secret.”

On July 23, Intel claims, Luo tried to download a file from his work laptop to an external hard drive. Internal company controls prevented that. But five days later, Intel says that Luo connected another storage device and downloaded 18, 000 files.-OregonLive

Following this suspicious incident, Intel initiated an investigation which ultimately identified Luo as the source of the unauthorized file transfer. In response, the company has filed a lawsuit against him. After several months of attempting to reach Luo at his last known address in Seattle, Intel is seeking $250, 000 in damages along with a court order to prevent the potential dissemination of sensitive information. This incident highlights growing concerns regarding employee behavior amidst corporate downsizing, particularly among experienced staff members.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the outcome remains uncertain, and currently, there has been no public response from Luo regarding the allegations. Given the serious nature of the stolen files labeled as “Top Secret, ”this development represents a considerable risk for Intel, raising questions about data security protocols and employee trust in the workplace.
