Intel’s Arrow Lake-S Series Poised for Significant Performance Enhancements via Upcoming Patches
The launch of Intel’s Core Ultra 200S CPUs was met with high expectations, particularly regarding their capability to surpass AMD’s Ryzen 9000 series. However, initial performance benchmarks revealed that in some instances, the Ultra 200S CPUs lagged behind even Intel’s previous Raptor Lake processors. This performance discrepancy has prompted the tech community to urge Intel for decisive corrections, particularly through a comprehensive BIOS update.
In a recent community update, Intel has acknowledged the substantial discrepancies between their internal performance tests and those reported by independent reviewers. They conducted an extensive analysis that identified five key factors contributing to these variances. Surprising to many, Intel has already rectified four of these issues, which should lead to improved performance metrics for users moving forward.
We recently concluded our investigation, and we have determined that there are five distinct topics that could alter performance or functionality:
- A missing Performance & Power Management (PPM) package.
- Intel Application Performance Optimizer (APO) could not take effect.
- BSODs when attempting to launch game titles utilizing the Easy Anti-Cheat service.
- Select performance settings misconfigured on reviewer or early enabling BIOSes.
- New BIOS performance optimizations.
We are pleased to report that 5 of 5 issues have been root caused, 4 of 5 issues are already solved with updates available to you, and significant performance upside is accessible by applying these updates.
While four out of five identified issues have been resolved, the remaining issue requires a new firmware update that is currently undergoing validation prior to its official release. Intel assures that additional updates will be disclosed during CES 2025, which will also serve as “Field Update 2,”aimed at fully addressing all performance challenges with the ARL-S series. It’s important to note that while the performance upgrades are subjective and can vary based on individual system setups, a noticeable improvement is anticipated.
As performance tests are yet to be conducted following these updates, Intel appears confident in their progress toward enhancing CPU performance. This initiative aligns with prior comments from Robert Hallock of Intel, who hinted at forthcoming updates just days prior in a post from December 13.
