Intel has struggled to regain its foothold in the desktop CPU segment over recent generations. Instead of showcasing advancements, Team Blue has been preoccupied with addressing significant issues in product launches, leading to a series of disappointing performance results. According to reports from Board Channels Forums (via HXL), Intel is witnessing a substantial decline in its market dominance within China. Adoption rates for Intel CPUs have plummeted, as consumers increasingly turn to AMD for more competitive and capable alternatives.

The latest Intel CPU generation, known as the “Core Ultra 200S”Arrow Lake lineup, has not met expectations. Initial reviews highlighted a significant shortfall in performance compared to what Intel had marketed. Despite attempts to rectify these issues through software updates and new microcode, the efforts failed to change consumer perceptions of the Core Ultra 200S series.

Additionally, instability issues plaguing the Raptor Lake Refresh lineup have forced Intel to manage numerous RMAs (Return Merchandise Authorizations), further damaging consumer trust. As confidence wavered, many turned to AMD, which has been successfully captivating the Chinese market with its latest Zen 5 offerings, including the Ryzen 9000 series and the advanced X3D CPUs.
As of the first quarter, AMD’s market share has surged to 50% in China, a dramatic turnaround that suggests a broader trend toward AMD’s dominance in the region. If this momentum continues, it could spell trouble for Intel, particularly as the company struggles with declining CPU adoption rates and stagnant motherboard sales.
