Kevin O’Buckley, an Intel representative, confirmed that after years of construction, Fab 52 is now active and primed for high-volume production of the 18A chips. Notably, this positions Intel ahead of competitors such as TSMC and Samsung in producing Angstrom-class manufacturing processes in the U. S.

The landscape regarding Intel’s leadership potential in American chip manufacturing is becoming clearer. The advancements in the 18A chip process are turning out to be markedly more competitive than prior forecasts indicated. The integration of technologies like RibbonFET and PowerVia enhances the performance of this new node. In comparison to the Intel 3 process, the 18A is projected to deliver a performance boost of 15% and a chip density increase of 30%, which is an outstanding accomplishment.
While Intel has not yet detailed specific production capacity figures or the growth trajectory for 18A manufacturing, the company asserts that Fab 52 will focus on high-volume output. This indicates that a significant portion of 18A production will occur in Arizona, running in tandem with TSMC’s operations.
