Intel continues to address the gaming performance challenges faced by its Arrow Lake processors, specifically the Core Ultra 200S models, through a new BIOS patch. Despite multiple announcements and prior updates, earlier versions, including microcode 0x114, yielded minimal improvements.

The company has been diligent in sending various BIOS updates to its board partners as part of its strategy to enhance gaming performance. In their latest presentation, Intel announced that the forthcoming patch could potentially result in a notable performance increase of around 17.5% on average, although users are advised to approach this claim with caution.

In their testing of an undisclosed Arrow Lake processor model, Intel reported impressive gains in several popular titles following the application of the new patch. For instance, they observed:

7% increase in Assassin’s Creed Mirage
21% boost in DOTA 2
16% enhancement in Far Cry 6

While these results are promising, Intel did not disclose the specific configurations or settings used during these tests, which raises questions about the reproducibility of these gains.

Moreover, the performance of synthetic applications appears set to improve dramatically with this patch. Intel claims enhancements include:

97% uplift in overall 3DMark Time Spy scores
10% improvement in 3DMark Time Spy CPU performance
30% reduction in memory latency as measured by AIDA64

However, skepticism arises regarding the 52% increase in single-threaded tests, as such a significant boost is atypical when compared to standard generational advancements. For context, the current single-core score of the Core Ultra 9 285K in Cinebench 2024 averages between 140–145 points. An increase to 212–220 points seems improbable and potentially misleading.
