
Intel has unveiled its latest innovation, the Core Ultra 200HX processors, which leverage a specialized Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to significantly enhance the gaming experience.
Intel Highlights a 14.8% Performance Boost with Core Ultra 200HX XPU
The integration of AI technology into gaming has reached an exciting phase, offering players valuable assistance in overcoming challenging levels and bosses. For instance, in titles like Black Myth: Wukong, players can utilize AI Assistants that provide insights into intricate game mechanics, enemy attack patterns, and character evaluation. While this feature might not be available in all games, it represents a promising trend in the gaming landscape.
At a recent event in China, Intel showcased how its Core Ultra 200HX processors harness the power of the NPU to improve gameplay and overall performance. By using dedicated hardware for AI tasks, the Core Ultra series allows a seamless integration of AI assistants into gaming, enhancing the user experience.

The Core Ultra 200HX processors feature specialized Neural Compute Engine tiles within the NPU, explicitly designed for handling AI-specific tasks. This allows players to leverage AI assistance when facing formidable challenges in games like Black Myth. Intel claims that performance improves dramatically when using the NPU in conjunction with the CPU and GPU, compared to using AI functionalities on the GPU alone.

According to Intel’s presentation, employing the AI Assistant solely through the GPU resulted in a modest performance of around 94 FPS, as the AI consumes significant GPU resources without providing substantial gains. Conversely, when utilizing an integrated approach that combines the CPU, GPU, and NPU, the frame rate surged to 108 FPS, marking a nearly 15% performance enhancement. Interestingly, without AI assistance, the performance dipped slightly to 103 FPS, indicating that AI’s influence on gameplay performance can be nuanced.

It is important to note that while the NPU in the Core Ultra 200HX can deliver up to 13 TOPS (trillions of operations per second), this is considerably less than the over 40 TOPS provided by competing models such as Copilot+ PCs. Furthermore, the Strix Point Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor claims an impressive 50 NPU TOPS, which far surpasses the capabilities of the Core Ultra 200HX.
Independent testing will be necessary to validate Intel’s performance claims, but the potential of AI assistance in gaming, particularly in boss encounters, is indeed promising. Although Core Ultra 200HX-powered laptops are not yet widely available, the recent launch of a model by Razer, featuring the RTX 5090 GPU, marks an exciting step forward in this technology.
