Intel Advances with Battlemage “BMG-G31″Variant; Aiming for AI and Professional Applications
Last year, Intel made waves in the graphics market by unveiling two new Battlemage GPUs, the Arc B580 and B570. At that time, these offerings generated significant interest, particularly as competitors NVIDIA and AMD had not yet released their next-generation solutions. As we approach the end of Q2, the lack of updates regarding Intel’s desktop GPU plans led to speculation about the company’s commitment to this segment. However, fresh insights from shipping manifests suggest a different narrative is unfolding.

The manifests have disclosed a new model named “BMG-G31, ”signifying an advancement in silicon technology compared to existing Battlemage WeUs. Preliminary reports suggest that this variant will include approximately 24-32 Xe2 cores, a 256-bit memory bus, and 16 GB of GDDR6 memory. However, rumors have circulated regarding the potential cancellation of the BMG-G31, asserting that Intel may not release this model for the consumer market. Instead, it appears this model is classified under “R&D purposes, ”hinting that its primary focus might be on AI and professional workloads.
Moreover, another entry in the shipping manifests mentions a peculiar variant called BMG “C32.”This designation raises questions due to the mixed initials from Battlemage and Celestial. Reports suggest that the BMG “C32″is part of the Battlemage series and may serve as a “reworked”variant of the BMG-G31. Sources indicate that Intel is actively developing multiple Battlemage models, though uncertainty remains regarding their intended market focus.
As Intel forges ahead with its GPU offerings, it will be fascinating to observe its strategy, especially since the company is concurrently developing the Xe3 “Celestial”architecture aimed at Panther Lake system-on-chips (SoCs).With the appointment of a new CEO, there has been a noticeable pivot towards artificial intelligence, suggesting that Team Blue may prioritize GPUs tailored for AI-specific applications moving forward.
