Exciting Prospects for Resident Evil in 2026
In recent years, CAPCOM has successfully revitalized the Resident Evil franchise with a series of remakes and new installments. The remakes of the initial four games alongside significant titles like Resident Evil VII Biohazard and Resident Evil Village have kept the series fresh. Such efforts have rekindled interest among fans, particularly after the mixed reception of the sixth installment.
The year 2026 is shaping up to be particularly thrilling for fans, with the upcoming release of Resident Evil Requiem on both PC and console platforms. This title marks the return of the beloved character Leon S. Kennedy in a mainline series entry, featuring an engaging dual gameplay style that has garnered a lot of excitement.
Yet, this upcoming launch isn’t the only thing fans have to look forward to. Despite a lack of news from this month’s Resident Evil Showcase, credible insiders indicate that another Resident Evil remake will be unveiled in the near future.
Recent buzz from the community was sparked by a post from Eva La Dare, the voice actress for Sheva, who hinted at an announcement for the series’ 30th anniversary in March. An established insider, Dusk Golem, clarified that “there is NOT a Resident Evil 5 Remake that’s going to be announced this year.”
Instead, Golem stated that a remake, which begins with “(C)”and ends with “(ode Veronica), ”is set to be announced later this year. This would indicate that a remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica—originally launched on the SEGA Dreamcast in early 2000—is nearing fruition. While this project has been circulating in rumors, this is the first solid indication that it could be revealed ahead of the also-rumored Resident Evil Zero remake.
While it’s wise to approach Golem’s claims cautiously, this insider has consistently demonstrated credibility in uncovering details about the Resident Evil franchise. Notably, they accurately predicted that Leon would appear as a second protagonist in Resident Evil Requiem, which was confirmed during this year’s The Game Awards.
With the recent remake of Resident Evil 4, which successfully modernized the classic without overshadowing its original appeal, it will be intriguing to see how CAPCOM approaches the remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica. The original game featured a blend of series elements but included some divisive gameplay and narrative choices, such as the notorious Fire Extinguisher trap and character-switching dynamics between Chris and Claire. Addressing these aspects while maintaining engagement will be essential to ensure the franchise’s continued success moving forward.
