Inside Out 2 is an upcoming animated film set to release on June 14, 2024. This sequel continues the journey of Riley Andersen, the young girl we all fell in love with in the first film, Inside Out. Directed by Kelsey Mann, this movie delves deeper into Riley’s evolving emotions as she navigates the complexities of adolescence.
In Inside Out 2, the concept from the original film is expanded to feature 10 of Riley’s emotions, capturing the nuanced reality of being a teenager. What is the Plot of Inside Out 2?
Inside Out 2 introduces us to 13-year-old Riley Andersen who has settled into her new life in San Francisco as she embarks on her high school journey. The beloved emotions from the original film – Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, and Anger – return to help Riley navigate this new phase of life, managing a new cognitive realm known as the “Sense of Self,”which influences her beliefs and memories.
As Joy strives to keep Riley’s memories happy and bright, the onset of a “Puberty Alarm”introduces new emotions such as Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui resulting in a tumultuous atmosphere at Headquarters, leading to conflicts in managing Riley’s ever-changing feelings.
With her friends Bree and Grace excited about hockey camp, Anxiety’s influence leads Riley to obsess over winning and making friends, causing her to clash with the camp director as Joy tries to keep her spirits high.
As Anxiety exacerbates Riley’s emotions, it creates a new Sense of Self defined by fear and self-doubt, prompting Riley to make choices that strain her friendships, especially with Val Ortiz, a candidate for class president.
As confusion reigns during hockey tryouts and hurt feelings arise, Riley experiences a meltdown fueled by panic. Ultimately, Joy helps Riley to understand that she need not change who she is for everything to be okay. They encourage a new Sense of Self that integrates both positive and negative memories, enabling Riley to reconcile with her friends and boldly move forward to join the Firehawks hockey team.
