At Gamescom 2025, we had the opportunity to engage with the upcoming DLC for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle titled The Order of Giants. The dedicated developers from MachineGames, namely Lead Game Designer Ezekiel Virant and Creative Director Axel Torvenius, provided us with an in-depth look at this expansion. Set to launch on September 4 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X—and slated for a Nintendo Switch 2 release next year—the DLC promises to deliver an exciting narrative adventure.

DLC Overview and Gameplay Mechanics

According to Axel Torvenius, the DLC begins in the Vatican sandbox, requiring players to progress up to a specific point before they can access the new content. Players will meet a new character, Father Orlando Ricci, who initiates a cutscene that launches the DLC’s events.

Axel Torvenius: “Father Ricci is very obsessed with finding this secret chamber. He hints that Father Ventura is onto him, which indicates that only a small portion of the DLC occurs in the Vatican sandbox. After about 10 to 15 minutes, players will transition to new explorations in Rome’s streets and the Tiber River, showcasing areas that were visible but inaccessible in the base game.”

New Content and Collectibles

As players dive into this DLC, they will discover numerous hints and clues embedded throughout the chapters, similar to the base game. There are approximately 70 new collectibles for players to discover to expand Indiana’s journal.

Ezekiel Virant: “You can embark on this mission at any stage of the campaign, even if you have completed the game. This key design choice allows for flexibility, enabling players to fast travel back to start the DLC.”

Fresh Experiences Await in Gameplay

Torvenius emphasized that virtually all content within the DLC is newly developed, ensuring a fresh experience. The team initially considered reusing some elements but ultimately decided against it, resulting in an entirely new adventure.

Axel Torvenius: “Everything from the casina onward is fresh content. None of this is cut material from the main game; rather, it was conceived while we wound down production on the base game.”

New Challenges: Difficulty and Puzzle Mechanics

Virant noted that puzzle complexity in the DLC may be slightly higher than in the base game, yet hints and an adventure mode are available to assist players who wish for a more leisurely experience. Combat difficulty will adjust based on players’ progress in the base game.

Ezekiel Virant: “While challenging puzzles abound, players can expect to retain the engaging narrative structure, with new mysteries for Indiana to solve.”

Visual Enhancements and Technical Advances

With advancements in graphical fidelity, the DLC will utilize RTX Hair technology, enhancing not just character design but overall environmental detailing.

Axel Torvenius: “We’ve seen significant improvements with the integration of RTX Hair. This isn’t a minor enhancement; it elevates the rendering fidelity across various assets in the game.”
