A clever nod within a recent Marvel Star Wars comic has officially intertwined Indiana Jones into the franchise’s canon, paying tribute to Harrison Ford’s extraordinary performances in two of his most cherished roles. Remarkably, this reference emerges within a narrative situated in the Star Wars timeline well before the era of Han Solo.

The storyline exhibits a lighter tone within the typically more serious Star Wars universe, centering on a group of spirited children. The title itself echoes that of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, but the references extend beyond mere naming.

Amidst their efforts to comfort the young ones, the trio decides to take them to the movies, hoping to uplift their spirits. To their surprise, the film they see prominently features a figure that will be immediately recognizable to fans of George Lucas’s iconic works.

Not the First Star Wars Comics to Reference Indiana Jones
And Hopefully Won’t Be the Last

This is not the first instance of Indiana Jones being referenced in Star Wars comics. A notable example comes from the 2004 narrative titled “Into the Great Unknown, ”included in the well-regarded Star Wars Tales anthology by Dark Horse Comics. Although the story is non-canonical and spans just ten pages, it presents a blend of fun and dark themes. In this tale, after the Millennium Falcon crash-lands on Earth, Han Solo meets a tragic end before Indiana Jones later stumbles upon his remnant ship while investigating Bigfoot sightings, only to find Han’s skeletal remains still adorned in his signature black vest.
As Indiana reflects on this eerie discovery, he muses that the scene feels strikingly reminiscent of his own adventures. The clever integration of Harrison Ford’s iconic roles into the Star Wars universe, highlighted in both “Into the Great Unknown”and the Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures 2025 Annual, showcases original storytelling that pays homage to one of cinema’s legendary actors, who has significantly shaped the Star Wars phenomenon.
Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures 2025 Annual #1 is currently available from Marvel Comics.
