Edward Preble Reveals the Inspiration Behind His Unique Speech Style
During his Blind Audition, Edward Preble performed ‘Luck Be a Lady’ by Frank Sinatra. Originating from Fernandina Beach, Florida, the 19-year-old singer is passionate about classic romantic tunes. Notably, he has a distinct speech accent that seems atypical for his region, which he explained following his performance.
“The way I speak might have been influenced by the music I grew up listening to and the historical accents I found appealing. Over time, I’ve come to enjoy speaking like this,”Edward shared.
He acknowledged that his peers often don’t resonate with his style, labeling it as “off-putting,”but he remains unfazed and committed to being true to himself.
As a music student at Hofstra University in New York, Edward conveyed how integral music is to his identity, noting that his father’s family had a rich history of jazz musicians. Pursuing this passion, he aspires to establish a career in the music industry. Before taking the stage, Edward expressed a strong desire for a chair turn from Coach Michael, who is revered in the jazz genre, having paid homage to legends such as Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., and Tony Bennett.
“I don’t want this music to fade into obscurity. Bublé has revitalized it, and even though we’ve never met, he gave me a shot,”Edward articulated.
Edward’s performance quickly garnered attention when Snoop Dogg turned his chair almost immediately. However, Michael took a moment longer, only pressing his button after Edward’s flawless execution of challenging lyrics.
Afterwards, Michael explained his cautiousness, mentioning that he is “very protective of this genre.”He ultimately persuaded Edward to join his team by expressing his deep appreciation for the genre.
“Edward is a truly remarkable talent. His sound is unique, and his personality shines through. I didn’t have anyone representing this cherished genre, the great American songbook and crooners. I’m thrilled and confident that I can really support him,”Michael stated.
