A long-time Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) enthusiast recently unearthed a nostalgic gem while packing for a move: an unopened HeartGold and SoulSilver booster pack. Even though such a relic, being over 15 years old, possesses considerable collector’s value, this pack did not remain sealed for long.
The HeartGold and SoulSilver set was debuted in Western markets on February 10, 2010. This marked a significant landmark in the Pokémon TCG scene, being the first expansion from the HeartGold and SoulSilver series, also recognized as the Legend Era in Japan. The English version of this set features a total of 124 cards, which is 18 less than the Japanese version.
While sorting through their belongings, a Reddit user named Claris-chang stumbled upon the unopened HeartGold and SoulSilver pack. Originally purchased for AUD $6.95 (approximately USD $4.31), a sealed version of this pack is currently valued at around $150, with prices soaring to over $500 for those graded PSA 10.

Despite acknowledging the increase in value over the years, Claris-chang decided to open the pack.“I ripped it because I thought it would be fun, ”they stated in their Reddit post, expressing satisfaction with the decision. While the pack didn’t yield ultra-rare cards, the contents were still valuable, given that the HeartGold and SoulSilver set contains cards that have been out of print since the early 2010s.

The total potential value of Claris-chang’s card pulls hinges greatly on future grading decisions. The highlight among their pulls is undeniably the Feraligatr (card #20), which, while valued at around $5 ungraded, has recently been sold for an impressive $472 when graded PSA 10. Claris-chang regarded this card as a cherished addition to their collection, particularly as they work towards completing a living Pokédex that previously lacked Feraligatr.

The second-most valuable card from the pack, Vulpix (#87), currently has PSA 10 market values reaching $80. Given the user’s goal of completing their living Pokédex, they may choose to forgo grading and simply enjoy the nostalgic experience of revisiting these classic cards.
