Carlos Alcaraz was recently the victim of a playful April Fool’s Day prank by French sporting equipment manufacturer Babolat, which left him feeling “hurt”and embarrassed.
Babolat shared a video on social media showcasing Alcaraz’s skills as he stood on one end of a house, attempting to hit a ball into a target basket placed on the opposite side. A video monitor was placed nearby to display his progress. Despite several near misses, Alcaraz eventually succeeded in landing one ball in the target.
After feeling immense joy, the young Spaniard begins to jump in excitement. However, as time passes, Alcaraz starts to doubt if he had successfully completed the challenge. He then requests the Babolat team to show him the video of his attempt. Upon reviewing the footage, he discovers that he had actually missed the target. As a prank, one of the team members slyly puts another ball into the basket.
“You have hurt my feelings. You all guys,”Alcaraz jokingly said after watching the video of him missing the ball in the successful attempt.
The uproarious prank had tennis enthusiasts doubled over in laughter as they commended Carlos Alcaraz for his sportsmanship. Some were also impressed by the Spaniard’s naivety and graciousness in handling the April Fool’s Day joke.
“That was a little messed up. Love the way he said you hurt my feelings. It was dirty!”a fan wrote on Reddit.
“Poor Carlos, I feel like his personality is the type that you could repeatedly fool him every year with something new and always get him, so naive and trusting 😭”, wrote another fan on Reddit.
“He was so excited like a puppy 😭😭”, a fan wrote.
“Looks like he would have eventually made it anyway!”another fan wrote.
