“If a Twisters Sequel Is Made, I Hope the Kiss is Worth the Wait”

I consider myself an ardent admirer of the upcoming 2024 film Twisters, which stars Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones. This Universal production has ingeniously revived the disaster movie genre, providing audiences with a thrilling experience from start to finish. Rumors have recently surfaced about a possible sequel, igniting the excitement of fans everywhere.

While there is currently no official announcement regarding another installment or the return of Powell and Edgar-Jones, I can’t help but share my thoughts on what I envision for their characters, especially considering my belief that Tyler Owens (played by Powell) and Kate (Edgar-Jones) missed a pivotal romantic moment—specifically, a much-anticipated kiss.

From a young age, I’ve been captivated by disaster films, having grown up watching classics like Volcano, Dante’s Peak, and, of course, Twister. The release of Twisters has reignited my passion for this genre. Although I yearn for a picturesque love story, I believe a sequel has the potential to heighten the anticipation surrounding Tyler and Kate’s relationship. Instead of starting the sequel with them apart, I envision a scenario where they are joyfully in love, adding layers to the narrative.

One of the defining features of the original Twister was the palpable, albeit unacknowledged, affection between Bill (Bill Paxton) and Jo (Helen Hunt).For the sequel, I suggest placing Tyler and Kate in a fresh narrative that begins with Kate in New York and Tyler calling for her assistance back in Oklahoma, creating a scenario in which distance challenges their relationship.

This setup would beautifully reintroduce their love story, urging viewers to invest emotionally in their journey—a captivating development for any potential continuation of their saga.

Let’s be clear: I genuinely want a sequel to Twisters. If they decide to title it Twisters: Here We Go Again and kick off with an intense makeout scene between Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones, I certainly wouldn’t object. However, the beauty of the original film lay in its clever use of contemporary climate issues, and it’s my hope that a sequel would continue this important dialogue, making viewers acutely aware of environmental threats in our world.

As for the question of romance? To be honest, I’m indifferent about when they choose to have them kiss. Whether they go for a passionate moment right at the outset or develop it more slowly doesn’t matter to me; I’m simply thrilled to see the continued buzz around Twisters.

As it stands, we must remember these are just rumors, and there’s no confirmation of future developments for Kate and Tyler. Yet, even if their love story ends with the 2024 release of Twisters, it’s remarkable that the film remains a topic of conversation nearly a year after its debut. This is a testament to the film’s ability to create deep, lasting connections with its audience, particularly with characters who deserved that airport kiss.
