Nelly Discussed Her Miscarriages in Episode 2 of The Great British Bake Off
A resident of Dorset, Nelly works as a palliative care assistant and is a mother of two. As a self-taught cook, her passion for baking evolved when she tried a neighbor’s gingerbread recipe. In the recent episode, she used her baking to narrate the story of her unborn children.
Each contestant was challenged to create a fully edible puppet theater using biscuits. Nelly crafted a forest with vibrant green trees and five shining stars, symbolizing her five pregnancy losses.
“These stars represent my five unborn children,”she shared.
She explained that two of the stars were dedicated to her twins, emphasizing that even though they were not born, they would always be a part of her.
“Even if you don’t birth them, you carry them in you, all your life. you’ve got the genes in, so I can’t miss them on my show, can I?”Nelly expressed.
Nelly elaborated on the meaning of the star-shaped cookies and the forest, stating they represent the “horrible obstacles”she has faced. Though these challenges have been “dark and painful,”she believes there is light within every forest that gives her the strength to pursue her dreams.
At the conclusion of the episode, contestant Jeff withdrew due to health concerns, while Hazel was eliminated from the competition.
The Great British Bake Off airs every Monday at 9 pm on Channel 4.
