In the latest episode of Survivor season 47, which aired on October 23, 2024, Rome Cooney became the sixth contestant to exit the competition. Rome found himself in a challenging predicament as his pre-merge alliance turned against him, undermining his efforts to implicate Kyle Ostwald.
He attempted to persuade the former members of Tuku to view Kyle as a negative influence, claiming he had been speaking about them behind their backs. Unfortunately, his fellow castaways uncovered inconsistencies in his statements, leading them to consider him as the source of misinformation. Consequently, they began plotting against him without his knowledge, while Rome remained under the impression that his strategy was effective.
In a candid interview with Entertainment Weekly published on October 24, 2024, the evicted Survivor contestant shared that he wasn’t entirely shocked by the results of the vote.
“I wasn’t completely surprised it was me. What astonished me was that the people who voted me out had genuinely wanted to do so. I had thought I was more of a help than a hindrance at that moment,”Rome explained.
He acknowledged the likelihood of him or Sol being the targets since no other names were being discussed. As he approached the tribal council, Rome guessed there was a 25% chance he would be the one voted out.
Rome Cooney Maintains His Claims About Kyle
After Kyle secured immunity, Rome shifted his focus to Sol, believing he could orchestrate a successful campaign for his ousting. Yet, the others remained unconvinced, and the group collectively deemed Rome their main target. He observed, “Everyone got into a mindset that nobody wanted to upset the unity.”
Rome recounted a conversation with Kyle the night prior to the immunity challenge where Kyle revealed personal comments that ultimately led Rome to reconsider their partnership.
“Kyle mentioned something regarding Caroline and Sue that crossed the line from gameplay. It was omitted from the show for clear reasons, but I knew I couldn’t align with someone like that. If I had repeated those things, it could have led to significant backlash. I’d never engage in that kind of talk again,”Rome stated.
The Survivor competitor noted that Kyle had misled the others by portraying himself as innocent, despite the truth in Rome’s assertions. He mentioned that Kyle had intentions to eliminate certain players, which Rome was initially willing to support until Kyle’s offhand comments prompted him to reconsider their alliance.
Although Rome previously regarded Kyle as a “really good guy,”his remarks changed that perception. He emphasized that “everyone involved in the game”was aware of Kyle’s words, including Caroline and Sue.
Reflecting on his exit, Rome expressed gratitude for the experience, highlighting that he had only discovered Survivor 18 months prior.
“Eighteen months ago, I hadn’t even heard of Survivor. So to find myself doing an exit interview now after playing this incredible game, I’m honestly thrilled for the opportunity,”Rome remarked.
The Survivor star articulated that anything is feasible in this competition, from being the first contestant voted out to claiming the million-dollar prize. He approached the game with this belief, hoping it would serve him well. Rome relished his time on the show, saying, “Those 12 days were filled with excitement. I had a fantastic time.”He left the series without regrets, having enjoyed every moment.
Nevertheless, he did acknowledge feeling a bit down knowing others were competing in immunity challenges while he was at home with his pets. However, he chose not to dwell on “what-ifs”or blame anyone else for his elimination.
Survivor continues to air every Wednesday at 8 PM ET, exclusively on CBS.
