“I was scared for the other team”: Kelly Oubre Jr. hilariously reveals initial thoughts amid Joel Embiid’s sudden return
The unexpected appearance of Joel Embiid for the Philadelphia 76ers game against the OKC Thunder on Tuesday night left everyone surprised. Despite being initially ruled out, Embiid was declared as available just an hour before tip-off. Kelly Oubre Jr. shared his reaction to the unexpected return of the reigning MVP.
During his postgame interview, Oubre was questioned about Embiid’s return to the court after being out since January 30th. Embiid led the Sixers to a 109-105 victory over the Thunder. The left-handed forward amusingly expressed feeling fearful for the opposing team, who only had an hour to gather themselves and get ready to face the MVP.
“My heart dropped because I was scared for the other team,”Oubre said. “He got to find his rhythm. He’s been out for a while and it’s just amazing to have him back. I think the whole NBA community missed him and we definitely missed him over here in his organization.”
Joel Embiid made a strong comeback from his knee surgery, scoring 24 points, grabbing six rebounds, dishing out seven assists, and recording three steals. In the crucial moments of the game, Embiid proved to be a key player, securing a steal with only 28 seconds remaining and sinking two crucial free throws to secure a three-point advantage for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Despite being out for a significant amount of time, Embiid’s performance was not unexpected as he went 6-for-14 from the field. He did manage to make all 12 of his free throw attempts, but had six turnovers.
Despite missing key players such as Tyrese Maxey, Robert Covington, and De’Anthony Melton, the Sixers were led by Kelly Oubre Jr.’s 25 points and Tobias Harris’ 18 points in a tough game. The OKC Thunder, also dealing with absences from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams, were unable to secure a win.
NBA Launches Investigation into Philadelphia 76ers’ Handling of Joel Embiid’s Injury Report
According to Jared Greenberg of TNT, there is a possibility that the NBA may launch an investigation into the Philadelphia 76ers’ treatment of their injury report for Tuesday. Despite being listed as “out”for most of the day, Joel Embiid surprisingly returned to the court after undergoing knee surgery.
Despite being fined $75,000 in February for violating injury report rules, which also involved the reigning MVP, Embiid was made available only an hour before the game. This could be perceived as an unjust action by the league.
If the Sixers are found to have committed any violations, they could face an additional fine from the NBA. It is uncertain whether the fine will remain at $75,000 or if it may be increased due to this being their second violation within a span of two months.
