“I want rematches” – Petr Yan outlines plan to avenge losses against Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili next
Last month, Petr Yan ended his three-game losing streak and secured a unanimous decision victory over Song Yadong at UFC 299. The bantamweight, who is ranked No.4, has expressed his desire to seek revenge for his previous two defeats against Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili.
In a conversation with Gorilla Fighting, ‘No Mercy’ spoke in Russian, stating:
“I want rematches. I told you, it’s going to be rematch season. With Song, he wanted to take mine. I’m interested in Sean O’Malley, Merab Dvalishvili. I’m not interested in Aljamain Sterling. He’s a different weight. There’s no point in talking about it now. These two rematches and plus, I’m interested in Marlon Vera. Guys who are in the top five.”
Despite being questioned about why Henry Cejudo wasn’t included in his list of targets, Yan maintained his response:
“I’m only interested in fighters who are in the rankings where I am… I don’t know where he is [ranked] now. He’s out of the question right now, but if it’s of interest, we’ll look into it.

Despite losing three consecutive bouts, Yan was able to turn things around with a victory over Yadong at UFC 299. This rough patch began with a split-decision loss to Aljamain Sterling at UFC 273 for the title. Despite many fans, fighters, and media outlets scoring the bout in his favor, he then suffered a controversial split decision loss to O’Malley at UFC 280. ‘No Mercy’ was then defeated by Dvalishvili in the main event of UFC Fight Night 221, losing all five rounds via unanimous decision.
Petr Yan addresses Sean O’Malley’s disrespectful behavior at UFC 299 press conference
Both bantamweights, Petr Yan and Sean O’Malley, appeared together at the UFC 299 press conference as they were both competing on the main card. ‘Suga’ was observed giving a thumbs down as he walked by ‘No Mercy’, and later stated that he believed his upcoming opponent at UFC 280 was meant to fight in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship.
The bantamweight who is currently ranked No.4 was questioned about O’Malley’s actions and replied:
“If I had seen that we would have had a fight… For Sean, the UFC is everything. It’s not everything to me. I don’t have the attitude that I overvalue it and I don’t see myself in other organizations. MMA is not everything to me.”
Take a look at what Petr Yan had to say about Sean O’Malley in the comments section:
Despite his desire to seek retribution for his disputed defeat against O’Malley, Yan will most likely need to secure another win before being granted another shot at the title. Despite sustaining a torn ACL and meniscus in his bout against Song Yadong at UFC 299, the bantamweight ranked at No.4 has expressed his intention to make a comeback before the year ends, accepting a challenge from Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera.
