“I told myself that I could do it” – Superbon on jaw-dropping knockout of kickboxing GOAT Giorgio Petrosyan

Superbon, the former ONE featherweight kickboxing world champion, has accumulated numerous impressive victories over the course of his twenty-year career. However, none have been able to surpass the iconic head-kick knockout he delivered to Giorgio Petrosyan.

Reflecting on his monumental victory over the renowned champion, the star based in Bangkok shared these thoughts during an interview with Fightlore Official.

He divulged:

“When I got my championship fight with Giorgio Petrosyan, that was fun. I was under pressure because he thought I had no chance of winning.

“However, I believed in myself, and I told my trainer that I could win. But it was only me and my trainer who believed in me. But I told myself that I could do it, and I did it.”

The two individuals met in the main event of ONE: First Strike in October 2021, competing for the first divisional gold. The Italian athlete, a renowned kickboxing world champion, was heavily favored in the match.

Despite the ease of understanding the reasoning behind it, ‘The Doctor’ entered the Singapore Indoor Stadium with an impeccable record of seven victories within the ONE circle. Additionally, the founder of Team Multi Fight Petrosyan has not experienced defeat in nearly ten years.

Despite his rival’s reputation, Superbon showed no signs of being intimidated when the bell rang. The 33-year-old wasted no time in getting close to his opponent, aiming to end the fight quickly.

Despite not arriving in the first three minutes, the Thai megastar managed to land a perfectly placed head kick within just 20 seconds of the second round, resulting in Petrosyan being knocked out cold.

Superbon Aims for Redemption at ONE Friday Fights 58

Superbon will once again have the opportunity to compete for a gold medal as he returns to the global stage at ONE Friday Fights 58, which will take place at the renowned Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

In the evening, the number one featherweight kickboxing contender will face off against the second-ranked Marat Grigorian for the interim world title in their division.

At the ONE X meeting in March 2022, the 33-year-old asserted his dominance over Grigorian and won by a unanimous decision. Despite this victory, he has no intention of going the full distance with his long-standing rival in their upcoming rematch under the promotional banner.

On April 5, ONE Friday Fights 58 will be broadcasted during Asia primetime on watch.onefc.com through global pay-per-view.
