“I start breaking dishes” – Steve Erceg jokes about doppelganger comparisons with Michael Scott, Novak Djokovic, and others (Exclusive)

Steve Erceg has recently discussed the frequent comparisons made between him and various well-known celebrities and fictional figures. Among the many individuals/characters that the MMA fighter from Perth has been compared to, one stands out – the Japanese manga character ‘Astro Boy’, which is also his fighter moniker.

Prior to his first UFC title opportunity, the Australian MMA veteran has been a topic of conversation among MMA enthusiasts due to his appearance, specifically his facial features. He has often been compared to the well-known fictional character Michael Scott from the popular American television show, ‘The Office,’ which was portrayed by veteran Hollywood actor Steve Carell.

In addition, he has been likened to Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic and American NFL standout Aaron Rodgers.

While being interviewed, Lynch brought up the topic of whether anyone had ever mentioned to the Australian fighter that he resembled Michael Scott from ‘The Office.’ In response, Erceg smiled and replied:

“A few times. A few times. I’ve got quite a few, yeah, memes. And I’m even coming out with a shirt soon. .. I’ve heard that one. I’ve heard Derek Zoolander. I’ve heard Novak Djokovic, Aaron Rodgers.”

In addition, Lynch added that the comparison to Djokovic was something he had only recently heard in regards to Erceg. He went on to mention that the UFC flyweight is quite easygoing and does not take offense to being compared to someone else.

Lynch mentioned that the 125-pound fighter of UFC may believe that individuals are just being imaginative. In a good-natured response, the mixed martial arts competitor insinuated that the likenesses angered him. Before erupting into laughter, the 28-year-old stated the following:

“No, I get very angry with that sort of thing. I start breaking dishes and all sorts, so. I’m a very angry man.”

The Rise of Australian MMA: Steve Erceg’s Quest for UFC Gold at UFC 301

Despite both being born in Australia, Robert Whittaker and Alexander Volkanovski held different titles in the UFC. Whittaker was the middleweight champion while Volkanovski reigned as the featherweight champion. However, currently, there is no Australian champion in the UFC. But Steve Erceg is determined to change that and bring a UFC world championship back to the Land Down Under.

Currently, Steve Erceg holds the No. 10 spot in the official UFC flyweight rankings. He is set to challenge Alexandre Pantoja, the current UFC flyweight champion, for his title at UFC 301 on May 4, 2024, at the Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The fight is highly anticipated as both fighters are skilled and determined to come out victorious.

Despite being a member of the UFC roster for less than a year, Erceg (12-1) has already been given the opportunity to fight for UFC gold. This has been seen as a significant opportunity for him, given his short time with the organization.
