“I know people might not understand that” – Matt Riddle opens up on getting fired by the WWE
Last year, former WWE star Matt Riddle discussed his departure from the company.
Despite enjoying a successful run in WWE, where he won both the United States Championship and RAW Tag Team Championships, Riddle’s popularity as a beloved babyface on the roster could not save him from being released by the company in September of last year. This decision came following some controversy during his return trip from India.
In a recent interview with TVInsider, the King of Bros discussed his departure from two prominent organizations, UFC and WWE. He shared that he initially felt disappointed upon his release, but found solace in his current independent ventures where he has more autonomy over his appearances and career trajectory. Despite the circumstances, Matt Riddle maintained a positive mindset and left the possibility open for a potential comeback in the future.
“I was upset when I got fired from UFC. I was upset when I got fired from WWE. At the same time, getting fired from both of those places, I was extremely relieved because ever since I was younger, since 20, I’ve been under contract for someone for fighting or wrestling. Even now, I’m still wrestling and traveling and just as busy as before, but I finally have control. I know people might not understand that. But having the ability to say no and the ability to hang out with your family and just do what’s best for you sometimes is a breath of fresh air. It really takes a lot of stress out.”(H/T – TVInsider)
The Dynamic Duo: Matt Riddle and Randy Orton’s Memorable Partnership
During his time with WWE, Matt Riddle was known for his endearing and comical persona as a babyface on television. His fanbase experienced a surge of excitement when he joined forces with Randy Orton to create the dynamic duo of RK-Bro.
The team achieved the title of two-time RAW Tag Team Champions and engaged in significant rivalries with the Street Profits, the Alpha Academy, and The Usos.
During the May 20 episode of WWE SmackDown, The Usos defeated RK-Bro in a title unification match to claim the tag titles. Following the match, Randy Orton was viciously attacked by Jimmy and Jey, causing him to be sidelined for over a year.
