“I hope I can teach her something good sometimes” – Andrey Rublev on becoming godfather to Daniil Medvedev’s daughter Alisa

Andrey Rublev recently shared about the special privilege of Daniil Medvedev choosing him to be the godfather of his daughter Alisa.

Rublev and Medvedev both hail from Russia, which led to the development of a strong friendship while they were competing on the junior circuit. As they made the transition to the professional tour, their bond remained unbreakable, and they continue to travel together to tournaments on a regular basis.

In the same context, it came as no surprise when Daniil Medvedev asked his compatriot to be the godfather of his daughter Alisa in 2022. The former World No. 1 later revealed that he had made this decision naturally, as Andrey Rublev possesses many admirable qualities.

“To be honest, yes, because as I say, we’re really close… He’s very kind. He’s kind of a little bit into – how we can call it – he’s religious, so that’s important to be a godfather. So it was kind of an easy decision, yeah,”Daniil Medvedev said in September 2023 (via Express UK). “I mean, we share a lot of let’s call it interests and stuff like this.”

In an interview with Sport Express Russia, the World No. 6 emphasized the weight of responsibility he felt after becoming Alisa’s godfather. He also shared his aspirations of being a positive influence in her life.

“Great responsibility. It was very pleasant and unexpected,”Andrey Rublev said. “I hope I can teach her something good sometimes.”

Despite their good relationship, Daniil Medvedev was not amused when Andrey Rublev jokingly claimed to be Alisa’s biological father at last year’s World Tennis League exhibition in the UAE. However, his wife Daria Medvedev found the joke funny.

“I’m the real father, he’s the godfather,”Rublev said when asked about being the godfather to Medvedev’s daughter.

Last November, a video surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) showing the 26-year-old spending quality time with Alisa. The Russian was playing with the one-year-old, who was joined by Daria and dressed in an adorable onesie and cap. The pride and joy on his face as he played the role of an ideal godfather was evident.

In 2014, Daniil Medvedev met Daria and after four years, they got married. Daria is also a former tennis player and accompanies her husband on the ATP tour occasionally.
