“I got to meet my husband, so I don’t want to change one thing” – When Steffi Graf maintained that she had no regrets about her tennis career
Steffi Graf once stated that she had no feelings of regret regarding the outcome of her tennis career.
Graf is widely considered to be one of the most exceptional tennis players in history. Throughout her career, she claimed a remarkable 22 Grand Slam titles and achieved numerous other impressive feats. Her most noteworthy accomplishment, however, was her Golden Slam in 1988, where she triumphed in all four Majors and also earned an Olympic gold medal in the same year.
Despite being ranked as the World No. 3, Steffi Graf made the decision to retire at the age of 30 in 1999. Her retirement came after winning her final Major title at the French Open, where she emerged victorious over Martina Hingis in the final.
Upon her induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame, the media asked Steffi Graf if she had any regrets about her career. The 54-year-old promptly answered in the negative.
Despite this, she did admit that had the opportunity presented itself, she would have preferred to have better managed her desire to extend her career, potentially leading to a healthier lifestyle.
“I have no regrets and I wouldn’t change a thing,”Graf said. “But I just wish that I would have had an easier time of getting away a little bit from the tennis and, you know, I always wanted to play. I wish I wouldn’t have had that desire as much, because I think that would have kept me probably a little healthier.”
“But I worked always hard and that took a toll at times physically, but other than that, I have to say, what kind of regrets can I have?”she added.
In addition, Graf shared how her career journey ultimately brought her together with her husband, renowned tennis player Andre Agassi. The two started dating in 1999 and eventually got married two years later.
“I was very fortunate with my career, so I wouldn’t change a thing. Look where I am right now, you know, through my career, I got to meet my husband. So I don’t want to change one thing,”she said.
The Graf-Agassi family has two children
Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi have been married for almost 27 years and their marriage has been a happy one. They have two children together, a son named Jaden Gil who was born on October 26, 2001, and a daughter named Jaz Elle who was born two years later on October 3.
Despite their parents’ rich legacy in tennis, neither Jaden nor Jaz has shown any interest in the sport. Instead, Jaden has chosen to pursue baseball and is currently a pitcher for the University of Southern California’s team, the Trojans, while Jaz has displayed her talents in dancing.
Prior to his relationship with Graf, Agassi had previously married famous actor Brooke Shields. They became engaged in 1996 and tied the knot a year later, but ultimately separated in 1999.
