“I fought kickboxing for so long” – Superbon admits feeling ‘limited’ against Tawanchai in his return to Muay Thai
Superbon Singha Mawynn, who previously held the title of ONE featherweight kickboxing world champion, is set to compete against a familiar opponent, Marat Grigorian, for the division’s interim strap at ONE Friday Fights 58 on April 5th. This rematch marks Superbon’s return to kickboxing after briefly switching to another sport and challenging Tawanchai PK Saenchai for the ONE featherweight Muay Thai throne in late 2020.
Despite the intense and closely-fought match between two top competitors, Superbon ultimately fell short with a unanimous decision loss. It was noted by some that the slight variation in rules between Muay Thai and kickboxing may have given Tawanchai a slight advantage in the fight.
During an interview with the South China Morning Post, the former world champion from Thailand stated:
“Then in Muay Thai, I have limits. Something that I can say before in Muay Thai I can box well. I can protect the kicks well. But because I fought kickboxing for so long, and kickboxers don’t really have good kicks.”

Superbon admits to being more comfortable with kickboxing than Muay Thai rules
In an effort to elaborate on the contrast between kickboxing and Muay Thai for him, Superbon pointed out that the varying number of weapons permitted is what sets the two disciplines apart:
“But in kickboxing, I feel more comfortable because the weapons are not that much. Only punch, low kick, body kick, or maybe a body shot with punches or something like that. It’s a little bit easier for me.”
In kickboxing, certain techniques commonly used in Muay Thai, such as clinch strikes, elbows, and kick-catching, are prohibited. This poses a significant challenge for the former world champion, who has a knack for executing roundhouse kicks without consequences.
