“I forgot only his legs were hurt” – Nong-O admits careless error cost him victory against Nico Carrillo
Despite his defeat in the bantamweight Muay Thai fight against Nico Carrillo last December, Nong-O Hama has acknowledged his negligence during the showdown.
The previous dominant division champion was anticipated to make a comeback and secure a win after his loss of the title, which was his first loss since joining ONE Championship, to Jonathan Haggerty at ONE Fight Night 9 in April of the previous year.
Despite appearing to be in control with his barrage of powerful strikes that effectively slowed down the Scottish fighter in the initial round of their bout, the ‘King of the North’ ultimately turned the tables by unleashing his devastating punches and defeating the legendary Thai in the middle of the second round.
Reflecting on the match, where he suffered consecutive defeats for the first time since 2012, Nong-O realized that he had been overly fixated on attacking Carrillo’s legs, ultimately leading to a missed opportunity for a comeback victory on the international platform.
During a recent conversation with Sportsmanor, the Evolve MMA star expressed his thoughts on the matter.
“As you can see, in the first round [against Nico Carrillo], you can see I did a lot of damage, and his legs were hurt. And, in the second round, I tried to focus on the leg kicks for more damage on the existing damage. But then I forgot only his legs were hurt, and not his hands.”
