Kustomade released a video titled “Reverse: Breaking The Silence”on Monday, April 1, via Kim Woojin’s official YouTube channel. Lasting no longer than five minutes, the video featured the idol discussing his transition into a new phase of his career as a solo artist, with a focus on elevating his music and presence in the industry.
Starting off with a discussion about his recent schedules and activities, the video gradually shifted towards his departure from Stray Kids.
In 2019, Kim Woojin abruptly departed from the recently formed K-pop boy group without providing any explanation, causing confusion and disappointment among fans.
The idol addressed the situation and expressed regret for his actions, acknowledging that he was late in doing so. He clarified that he was young at the time and made a selfish decision without considering the impact on Stray Kids as a whole.
“In the past, after leaving the team like that, I feel terribly sorry about it,”he said.
Moreover, along with his apology, he conveyed his desire for his future endeavors to bring a sense of solace and comfort to his audience.
Kim Woojin Shares His Focus on Personal Storytelling in New Solo Endeavors
In March, it was announced that Kim Woojin is set to make a new debut with Kustomade, a subsidiary of SM Entertainment created under Kreation Music Rights. The agency officially launched on March 18th.
Despite the fact that he had not yet officially debuted, a short documentary titled “Reverse: Breaking The Silence”was released by Kustomade, featuring the idol Kim Woojin addressing his previous departure. In the documentary, Kim Woojin shared his thoughts on the matter, stating:
“Back then, I focused on the listeners’ preferences, rather than my personal storytelling in my music. But nowadays, I’m prioritizing my personal storytelling. I felt that conveying my story was quite a significant matter. After experiencing that nonsense, I decided to speak more clearly about myself.”
Despite briefly discussing the impact of the criticism he faced, he proceeded to address his departure from Stray Kids and offer his apologies for it.
“It was quite shocking. They make irresponsible comments and do not listen to my words. I felt quite frustrated by that whole situation. From now on, if I had to speak up, I decided to deliver my thoughts more clearly. In the past, after leaving the team like that, I feel terribly sorry about it. Back then, I was still young. I focused on my situation first.”
Kim Woojin capped off the video by sharing his aspirations as an artist for his upcoming debut with SM Entertainment’s Kustomade.
“Although it’s a bit late, I would like to apologize to all the people who were hurt by that incident. I would like to express my deep apologies. I want to talk about myself in my songs now. Every hardship has its phase, right? I believe that showing sympathy through music can bring solace. Hence, it might sound a bit too cliche, but I want to be a singer that makes sympathetic music and brings comfort.”
In 2019, it was revealed that Kim Woojin had left the rookie K-pop boy group Stray Kids. The announcement cited personal reasons as the cause of his departure. The sudden departure of the idol had a detrimental effect on the group’s public perception.
Despite the excitement of some netizens about the idol’s new career, others have voiced their lack of interest on social media.
