“I Don’t Want to Be Involved” — Cam’ron Rejects NYC Key During Diddy and Eric Adams Scandals
Recently, rapper Cam’ron disclosed that he declined the prestigious key to New York City amidst the ongoing controversies involving rapper Diddy and NYC Mayor Eric Adams. On the September 27 episode of his sports podcast, It Is What It Is, Cam’ron shared with co-host Ma$e his reasons for rejecting the honor, emphasizing that he wanted to stay away from the current drama.
“You know what’s crazy? This is word to everything I love. Last month, they called me to see if I wanted the key to the city. I said, ‘I don’t want to be involved with nothing.’ They offered me that s**t. They said, ‘Cam, you want the key to the city?’ I was like, ‘That ain’t really up my alley right now. I’m cool with the key to New York City, man,’” Cam’ron stated.
Additionally, Cam’ron expressed his lack of interest in aligning with those awarding the keys or with previous recipients of the honor. Fans interpreted his comments as a veiled critique of Adams and Diddy, particularly since Adams had recently presented Diddy with the key to NYC in September 2023.
“Where does that get you? I don’t want nothing to do with the keys to the city and the n****s giving ’em out, the n****s who previously had ’em. I don’t got nothing to do with the key to the city,” Cam’ron remarked.
Diddy’s honor was rescinded in May 2024 after a 2016 CCTV video surfaced showing him assaulting his former partner Cassie Ventura.
Unpacking the Allegations Against Diddy and Eric Adams in Context of Cam’ron’s Rejection of the NYC Key
Cam’ron’s declaration of his disinterest in New York City coincided with the city being embroiled in two significant legal matters. On September 16, Diddy faced arrest over charges related to s*x trafficking and prostitution.
These events unfolded following a series of lawsuits alleging Diddy committed abuse, r*pe, and assault, beginning with a lawsuit from Ventura filed in November 2023. Law enforcement also raided Diddy’s properties in LA and Miami, leading to the confiscation of guns, drugs, and 1,000 bottles of baby oil.
During the raids, authorities reportedly uncovered evidence of “freak offs,”events allegedly orchestrated by the rapper for personal gratification, where women were allegedly coerced or drugged into engaging in s*xual acts with male escorts.
Diddy is currently detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center, awaiting a hearing scheduled for October 9. He has been denied bail on two occasions, with his legal team planning a third appeal.
Mayor Eric Adams Indicted on Bribery and Corruption Charges
Meanwhile, NYC Mayor Eric Adams was indicted on five counts of serious offenses, including “bribery, campaign finance violations, and conspiracy.”The indictment, revealed on September 26, alleges that Adams misused his position for nearly ten years by accepting illicit campaign contributions from Turkish businessmen.
During his arraignment on September 27, Adams pleaded not guilty to all charges while facing increasing calls for his resignation. He also released a video statement through his attorney asserting his innocence and expressing his commitment to contesting the allegations.
“I always knew that if I stood my ground for New Yorkers that I would be a target—and a target I became. If I am charged, I am innocent and I will fight this with every ounce of my strength and spirit. I have been facing these lies for months… yet the city has continued to improve. Make no mistake. You elected me to lead this city, and lead it, I will.”
The mayor’s next court appearance is anticipated on October 2.
