“I don’t think my Karate and Jiu-Jitsu would have been useful” – Georges St-Pierre recalls silverback gorilla confrontation in Rwanda
During his appearance on the Pound 4 Pound with Kamaru & Henry podcast, Georges St-Pierre shared a captivating tale with hosts Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo. He detailed his encounter with a silverback gorilla while trekking in Rwanda.
As Usman and Cejudo looked on in disbelief, they both burst into laughter as ‘GSP’ playfully recounted the immense fear he experienced when he encountered a formidable wild animal, during their brief yet intense interaction.
“I actually got chased by a silverback gorilla. I was in Rwanda, I did gorilla trekking. He looked at me, he comes, he went towards me. I get out of the way and I put my knees on the floor like this and I was like, man, I was like, ‘Please, please.’ And then I look, he’s not in front of me.”
Surprisingly, the silverback gorilla considered the all-time MMA great to be such a minimal danger that he intentionally revealed his back, which is typically his weakest spot, to him. This led ‘GSP’ to share a video of the encounter on X/Twitter and express relief that no harm was done.
“I don’t think my Karate and Jiu-Jitsu would have been useful if the situation with the Silverback Gorilla had escalated. Thanks God!”
