Rihanna has come out in enthusiastic support of Kendrick Lamar as he prepares to headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2025. During the unveiling of her Fenty x Puma Avanti sneaker on Thursday, October 24, 2024, Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier asked for her opinion on Lamar’s highly anticipated performance. The artist responded:

“It’s a diamond on a ring finger, honey. It’s meant to be.”

As Rihanna’s comments about Kendrick’s upcoming performance circulated widely online, many social media users immediately shared their reactions. One X user remarked:

“I caught that shade- “

Numerous fans echoed Rihanna’s sentiment, emphasizing that K. Dot is undoubtedly a worthy choice. A user even referenced their 2017 collaboration, commenting, “Loyalty.”Below are some of the reactions noted under @PopBase’s post on X:

However, not everyone was thrilled with Rihanna’s remarks.

Rihanna Performed at the Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2023

In her discussion with Kevin Frazier, Rihanna inquired whether he had any reservations about Kendrick Lamar’s performance. The interviewer clarified that he believed it would be fantastic but was interested in her perspective since she previously headlined a halftime show.

The “Umbrella”artist expressed that Kendrick Lamar “deserved”the opportunity to take center stage at the Super Bowl 2025, praising him:

“Kendrick Lamar is the one that’s supposed to do it right now. He’s gonna crush it. We should never doubt him. He’s an amazing artist, top-tier.”

She further elaborated:

“He had an incredible year. He actually brought so many people together. It’s to be celebrated. That’s what culture is. He deserves it. I cannot wait to see it. Kendrick, thank you.”

During her Super Bowl halftime show in 2023, Rihanna announced her second pregnancy (Riot) with partner A$AP Rocky. Her 13-minute performance showcased her iconic songs like We Found Love, Diamonds, and Work. Rihanna and Rocky are currently the proud parents of two sons: RZA, 2, and Riot Rose, 1.

Previously, Rihanna declined to perform at the NFL Super Bowl in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick, who protested police brutality and racial injustice by kneeling during the national anthem. Following his protest, Kaepernick remained unsigned by any team.

In September 2024, Kendrick Lamar announced via an Instagram video that he would perform at Super Bowl LIX, showcasing the Compton rapper in front of an American flag, throwing footballs from an automatic machine, stating:

“Will you be pulling up? I hope so. You know it’s only one opportunity to win a championship. No round twos.”

Like Rihanna, Lamar has shown his support for Kaepernick through his 2017 work with Mary J. Blige on the cover of American Skin (41 Shots). In a speech at the Forbes Under 30 summit in 2017, he again praised Kaepernick’s actions.

Kendrick Lamar previously took the stage at Super Bowl 2022 alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and 50 Cent.

Super Bowl LIX is scheduled to take place on February 9, 2025.
