“I Apologize for My Diss” — Proof’s Son Nasaan Expresses Regret to Cordae, Reveals Distant Relationship with Eminem
Nasaan, the son of Detroit rapper Proof, has issued a public apology to fellow artist Cordae for a diss he made back in 2020. He also clarified his lack of a personal relationship with Eminem.
In 2020, Nasaan dropped a freestyle rendition of Eminem’s hit track from 2002, “Without Me,”where he aimed some pointed lyrics at Cordae. The diss included the lines:
“My shape isn’t in tip-top? Then who saving hip hop? (YBN Cordae?)/Bi*ch you sound stupid as f*ck’ as a diss towards Cordae.”
On October 4, 2024, Nasaan took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his regret over the diss, revealing his feelings of jealousy regarding Cordae’s relationship with Eminem. He stated:
“I apologize to the Cordae fellow. I’m growing & realize I started trolling you out of envy. Was gonna put all this in a song but rhyming s*it with your name is difficult n***a. He was getting the love from Marshall that I had always wanted but…”
Nasaan further detailed his grievances, admitting he was envious of the bond Cordae shared with Eminem. He confirmed his lack of a personal relationship with the legendary rapper, stating:
“Yes, there is no relationship. I have none with him, but who cares? He doesn’t owe me that; he was my father’s friend, not MINE. He took care of my family financially for years!!! off GP. He’s great in my book! I’m 26 now. I accepted I’ll never get the relationship I wanted with him,”he explained.
Eminem and Nasaan’s late father, Proof, were childhood friends in Detroit. Proof was a member of D12 and a close associate of Eminem. Nasaan expressed a desire for a similar friendship with the rapper.
Notably, Cordae has enjoyed notable support from Eminem throughout his career, collaborating on several tracks, including the “Parables (Remix)”and “Doomsday.”
“I never quite understood it”- Nasaan explains his frustration with Eminem’s support for Cordae
In his posts on X dated October 4, Nasaan presented several grievances directed towards Eminem. He expressed his confusion over why Eminem chose to support Cordae instead of him, reflecting:
“I felt like I was a way more talented rapper sitting in front of his face yet he chose him [Cordae] to champion. (Granted, I was 19) but I never quite understood it. I’m older & more mature now so I internalize all this a lot differently.”
Nasaan further elaborated on his longing for a mentor-like relationship with Eminem, hoping to forge a bond akin to the one between Eminem and his father, Proof. He noted:
“Since a teenager, I kind of just wanted to make Em & his team proud & build this uncle-like bond with them where I can come around, ask for advice wherever need be, etc., and it just never got to that point 😒 and in retrospect, I guess that frustrated me and made me jealous.”
He ultimately explained his reasons for apologizing to Cordae, sharing that he felt he owed the rapper after having trolled him for “the sh*t out of him for 3 years straight.”
Nasaan also mentioned that he is uncomfortable with “lying”in interviews about having a relationship with Eminem. He concluded by sharing that he is content with the “distant love”he shares with Eminem.
“The distant love we have for one another is more than enough for me 🫶 thank you for everything Marshall and sorry again Cordae. love you guys,”he wrote.
Earlier in May, Nasaan jokingly cautioned Eminem on X when the rapper announced a single release coinciding with the date of his own album, “Error 404.”
Eminem’s latest album, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce),”was released on July 12, 2024, with the first single, “Houdini,”debuting on May 31, 2024.
