“I Actually Like You Now” — Kody from Sister Wives Discusses Changing Relationship Dynamics with Meri Following Their Split
The highly anticipated Season 19 of Sister Wives will debut a new episode on Sunday, October 20, 2024. An exclusive sneak peek shared by PEOPLE on October 18, 2024, offers a glimpse into a one-on-one exchange between Kody Brown and his former wife, Meri Brown.
During this candid discussion, Kody reflected on the evolution of his relationship with Meri following their breakup. He openly stated that he had harbored feelings of dislike for her for six years, a sentiment he claims has transformed. As he spoke with Meri, the 55-year-old reality star confessed:
“Where we are now is…I actually like you now.”
Meri’s playful response to Kody’s admission was, “Gods be praised.”In this exclusive footage, she also shared her perspective, elaborating on her emotional state since finalizing her divorce from Kody. The 53-year-old star expressed a renewed sense of happiness after last week’s broadcast, which showcased her formally ending their marriage through their church.
What Insights Did Kody and Meri Offer in the Teaser of Sister Wives?
In the opening of the clip, Meri mentioned her contentment as she embraced her newfound freedom from Kody’s marriage in the previous episode. Despite his hesitance regarding the church’s release process (from the Apostolic United Brethren), Meri proceeded on her own to end their ties. Notably, they had already been legally divorced since 2014, having originally wed in 1990.
As she spoke to the cameras in the upcoming episode, Meri conveyed a sense of “very peaceful”feelings about their situation, which contrasted sharply with Kody’s more troubled demeanor. She pointed out that some of his remarks about their relationship were “really, really, really mean,”suggesting that he has unresolved internal struggles he needs to confront moving forward.
During their dialogue, Kody revealed he had disliked Meri for “six years.”However, Meri argued that it was deeper than that, encouraging him to be truthful with himself.
The discussion then shifted to their plans for the upcoming holiday season. Kody mentioned that his remaining spouse, Robyn Brown, had requested him to invite Meri over for Christmas because she remains part of their family. Meri responded candidly:
“I’m not going to go hang out at Christmas. I’m not your wife anymore.”
Kody remarked that he usually respects Robyn’s opinions, but Meri retorted, “No, you don’t,”expressing her skepticism. Unfazed, Kody asserted that if she believed he wasn’t capable of independent thought, she didn’t know him well.
Meri clarified that she trusted his judgment but recognized how much he considers others’ feelings in his decisions.
Reflecting on their past relationship, Kody admitted that he felt at a loss regarding how to define their current status post-split. To this, Meri replied:
“We’re exes, let’s be real. You don’t need to worry about me. I just wish you knew how amazing of a person I really am.”
Meri and Kody confirmed their separation in January 2023, after 32 years of being together. Prior to their split, Kody’s other spouses, Christine Brown and Janelle Brown, had also parted ways with him within a year.
In a past episode, Meri elaborated that while their legal divorce occurred in 2014, their spiritual union had persisted. She stated:
“Back in 2014, Kody and I did do a legal divorce, and for me, that whole process was purely for the fact that he could then marry Robyn legally and then adopt her three older kids. But our spiritual marriage, our spiritual ceiling was still intact.”
Meri clarified that the concept of marriage is eternal. Thus, with her formal disconnection from their church, she expressed that it signaled the end.
