Hyper Light Breaker Guide: Obtaining Abyss Stones and Their Functions

In Hyper Light Breaker, players encounter various types of currency, among which Abyss Stones hold a unique position. These invaluable resources can only be obtained from specific sources, making them vital for character development and gameplay enhancements. Whether you are unlocking new characters or upgrading essential stats, knowing how to efficiently farm Abyss Stones while navigating the Overgrowth is crucial.

Abyss Stones are particularly significant when used alongside Cores, another valuable asset in the game. Cores can be located in Stashes scattered throughout the Overgrowth, with some Cores hidden behind barriers that necessitate the use of a Key for access. Alternatively, players can gather four Core Shards, which can be transformed into a complete Core during biome explorations.

Abyss Stones serve two primary functions that set them apart from other in-game currencies like Material or Bright Blood. Their rarity means players typically hold a limited quantity during gameplay sessions, emphasizing the need to utilize them wisely to avoid losing them in unsuccessful runs or when Rezes are depleted within a Cycle.

The key uses of Abyss Stones involve:

  • Unlocking New Characters
  • Upgrading SyCom Stats for Existing Characters

One of the main uses of Abyss Stones is to unlock characters available during Early Access, commencing with Vermillion. As players progress, spending Abyss Stones allows access to character options like Lapis and Goro, enriching gameplay experiences.

Currently, only three characters are accessible in Early Access, yet the game is anticipated to include at least six additional character slots over future updates, expanding your gameplay diversity.

Beyond character unlocking, Abyss Stones are instrumental in enhancing SyCom abilities and improving the stats of existing characters. Players can use these stones alongside Cores to boost various stats before embarking on their next run. It’s important to note that these upgrades do not carry over into new Cycles, so players must plan their enhancements carefully.

To acquire Abyss Stones, players must defeat specific Crown bosses found throughout their adventures. Successfully navigating the game’s challenges and assembling the right gear allows access to these formidable opponents within dedicated arenas scattered across the Overgrowth.

Currently, only two Crown bosses are present in the game: Dro and Exus. Notably, these bosses do not include roaming Elite enemies, which may present themselves once the Danger Meter is sufficiently filled during exploration.

To challenge a Crown boss, players need to collect enough Prisms, another essential resource within the game. Prisms can be found marked on the map with a yellow diamond icon and are typically dropped by Elite enemies scattered across various biomes. By defeating these Elite foes, players can gather sufficient Prisms to unlock a Crown gate and engage in boss battles.

Once a Crown gate is activated on the Overgrowth map, players face a randomly selected Crown boss, with the arena variations adding an element of surprise to each encounter.

By mastering the mechanics of these Crown boss fights, players can consistently earn Abyss Stones with each successful run. This success hinges on the strength of your character build, so it’s advisable to experiment with varying gear combinations and character traits throughout a Cycle. Obtaining Abyss Stones not only empowers your character but also enables the option to explore entirely new play styles with newly unlocked characters.
