HYBE CEO Discusses BTS’s Complete Comeback Strategy Following Profit Drops from Members’ Military Service

HYBE CEO Provides Insight into BTS’s Full-Group Comeback Plans

During the recent annual shareholders’ meeting in Seoul, Lee Jae-sang, the CEO of HYBE Corporation, discussed the eagerly awaited full-group comeback of BTS. This announcement has generated significant excitement among fans and investors alike.

Military Service Update and Comeback Preparations

Lee conveyed that all seven BTS members are expected to fulfill their mandatory military service by June 2025. While preparations for the group’s return are underway with collaboration from top-tier producers, Lee emphasized the importance of allowing the artists personal time for reflection on their future endeavors.

“The company is engaging with prominent composers and making preemptive moves, but the artists (BTS members) need to think carefully and prepare, ”stated Lee said.

He further elaborated on the traditional production cycle: “Typically, we develop a song, launch an album, and then embark on a tour. However, since BTS has achieved global superstar status, we are continuously discussing their future vision and direction, necessitating careful consideration and alignment.”

Financial Impacts of BTS’s Hiatus

The ongoing military enlistment of BTS has had notable repercussions on HYBE’s finances. Once accounting for about 95% of the company’s revenue, BTS’s contribution diminished to below 20% in 2024 due to their absence from group activities. Despite reporting a record revenue of 2.25 trillion won in 2024, HYBE faced a 38% drop in operating profit. This decline has been linked to the hiatus of their flagship group and increased investments in the debut of new artists along with international expansion efforts.

Projected Recovery and Anticipated Profit Growth

Lee reassured stakeholders that BTS’s highly anticipated return is likely to revitalize the company’s profitability. Market analysts are projecting a staggering 54% spike in HYBE’s profits following the group’s comeback and subsequent world tour.

Current Military Service Status of BTS Members

As of now, five BTS members are serving in the military, with their discharge dates set for June 2025. RM and V are scheduled to complete their service on June 10, followed closely by Jimin and Jungkook on June 11. Suga, who is serving as a social service worker due to a shoulder injury, is expected to end his duties on June 21. Notably, Jin and J-Hope have already completed their military service, with Jin returning in June 2024 and J-Hope following suit in October 2024.
