Following the remarkable success of the original Mate XT, it was inevitable that Huawei would introduce a successor. Just prior to Apple’s grand reveal of the iPhone 17 lineup, Huawei has officially launched its second-generation tri-fold smartphone, the Mate XTs. The initial model received widespread acclaim for its innovative design, and many of its celebrated features are retained in this latest iteration. This time, however, Huawei has enhanced the device with an upgraded chipset and positioned it at a premium price point.
Mate XT’s Success Driven Development of Mate XTs
The first-generation Mate XT generated an impressive $1.3 billion in revenue for Huawei, prompting the swift development of its successor. The Mate XTs boasts a generous 10.2-inch LTPO OLED display, featuring an impressive resolution of 3, 184 x 2, 232 pixels in a 16:11 aspect ratio. With a peak brightness of 1, 800 nits and an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 90Hz, users have options to preserve battery life. For those preferring more compact usage, the device allows display size adjustments down to 7.9 inches or 6.4 inches for easier single-handed handling.

With regards to processing power, the Mate XTs is equipped with the Kirin 9020 chipset, which provides a noticeable boost compared to the Kirin 9010 used in its predecessor. Nevertheless, the underlying architecture may not have seen significant changes, as it continues to utilize the older 7nm lithography and CPU cluster. The device runs on Huawei’s proprietary HarmonyOS 5, designed to deliver a smooth operating experience with lower resource demands. Battery-wise, it retains the same 5, 600mAh capacity as its predecessor, supporting rapid 66W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 7.5W reverse wireless charging—though some were hoping for an upgrade in capacity given the new chipset.
Camera capabilities on the Mate XTs are impressive, featuring an 8MP front-facing camera. On the rear, the device is outfitted with a robust configuration that includes a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultrawide lens, and another 12MP telephoto camera that supports up to 5.5x lossless zoom. However, potential buyers should be prepared for a significant financial commitment, as the base model (with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage) is priced at CNY 17, 999, equivalent to approximately $2, 520. The pricing scales with storage options, with the 512GB version costing CNY 19, 999 ($2, 800) and the top-tier 1TB model reaching CNY 21, 999 or about $3, 080.
